They were top three up until Horford went down. Most teams that lose a guy who puts up 18 and 9 a night will falter.

Agreed. I think its almost a sure thing they will be top 4 at the very least. People don't realize how good the Hawks were last year (in a bad conference) prior to the Horford injury.

Its really odd that Philly is so actively seeking to trade MCW. Makes you wonder if he is really all that good. They did the same thing with Jrue Hollidsay.

Mind telling me how you know they're shopping him so actively? There was speculation because word was they loved Exum, but there was no backing to any of it. Just speculation and ideas thrown around.

There is a zero percent chance he gets traded any time soon.

Now I am unsure what this deal means for the Hawks. If they do what I think they will, Deng will sign with the Hawks and that will wrap up the off season. Maybe a small deal here and there. The cap room was there to sign Luol Deng to a
7-9 million dollar a year contract. I am going to be very disappointed if this move was to clear payroll moving forward. Ferry needs to go for it or get off the pot.

I'll say it again:
The Sixers are one of the worst teams in the league. This is by design. They hired a new GM last year that tore what little they had down, because no winning was going to take place in the next 10 years doing things the way they were. They're going for a double-tank with this coming season. Their roster last year became a joke. Byron Mullens was starting at center for a time period.
So yes, there was basically nothing there when Hinkie came in. The franchise was terrible and would be stuck in purgatory.
The last two drafts they added the two best, highest-ceiling prospects in the draft and the 2013 ROY.
The point is, they weren't going to compete last season, or this season, and in all likelihood not the season after that anyway. They tanked last season and will do the same this season while gearing up with young talent. They're looking long-term. It's not that complicated. In two years, the team will have these guys on the roster:

MCW
Noel
Embiid
Saric
McDaniels
top 5 pick in 2015
top 10 pick in 2016

That's a solid base. Add in a good FA or two.

I am on board with the way the Sixers are trying to win. The superstars in the league aren't going to sign there anytime soon. Stock pile draft picks and hope you draft a stud or two of your own. Marginal to decent free agent signings to add some veteran players. Not all your picks are going to pan out, but you hit on just a couple and you are in business.

And if Melo doesn't sign with the Knicks, that's one of the worst rosters in the league.
Not by design though.

There is no question that Philly is building the right way. Problem is unless you get a Lebron/Durant then you aren't guaranteed anything. Not sure if Philly has that player or anything close to it.

Of course it doesn't guarantee anything. Embiid could never be healthy and Saric could never end up playing here.
Point is they were guaranteed to never win anything the other way, being in NBA purgatory.
Melo is also a guarantee to never win (if he's your main guy).
They're giving themselves opportunities to find a stud.

Melo hasnt been surrounded by much in his career.

The Hawks were 16-13 when Horford went down, give me an effin break.

They are built terribly. They are going to have to make some trades.

Which would have put them around 45 wins if he played all season based on their first 29 games. They would have been 5th ahead of the mighty Wizards.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

I'm not claiming the Wizards are a top 3 team in the east.....but they are much better than the ****ty Hawks

Certainly not, but I'll still say not making the playoffs in a pathetic East reflects poorly on him. He is a not a guy that can carry a team. He's a 2nd fiddle.

Pretty sure he made the playoffs his first 10 years.

I guess you can say he's a little overrated but the guy's a heck of a player.

The Wizards were 44-38 despite injuries to Beal and Nene this past year. They went tothe 2nd round of the playoffs, something the Hawks haven't done in 3 years; with or without Horford.

Seven straight playoff appearances for the Hawks. Something the Wizards haven't done in about seven years.
