7-21: Miami Rainbows (Koehler) at Braves (Teheran) - Retorno del Oso

Tommy is hitting the ball fine where he is. Simmons hasn't hit like this anywhere else in the lineup. There is plenty to criticize here.

Not really. Swing out of your shoes and falling into the other batters box kinda hitters have no room in the top of the order. Hit him 8th till he adjusts and uses all fields. Not that complicated here.

Pulled this from a post I made almost a week ago.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simmons batting second this year.

19 games, his walk rate is 8% which is higher than anywhere else, his K rate is 4.6% which is the lowest. I discounted batting 1st, 5th, and 9th because there isn't enough at bats. He's batting .316 with an OBP of .372. Again both are highs in that category. His slugging and OPS are .367 and .739 which are a little lower than what he does from the seventh spot.

2nd or 7th are comparable, but he's hitting for a better average and getting base much more frequently from the 2nd spot.

Fact of the matter is that Simmons has a .343 OBP in the 2 slot this year, while BJ has a sub-300 OBP no matter where he hits.

Moving TLS into one of the top 2 slots was the correct move, but it was negated by leaving BJ at the top.

The top 5 in the order need to be TLS, Justin, Freeman, Gattis and Heyward in some order (but probably in that exact order). Any other lineup is wrong, period.

Guys quit fighting.

I am the only one that fights and I fight anyone and everyone. We need to keep the mojo, but I do agree with Niners about not changing a thing. I know hitting La Stella 8th is not the best, but Simba has looked better in the two hole even though he ends up in the other batters box sometimes BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY he is taking more pitches and walking more. Now back in the 8 hole, he will swing at everything and not take as many pitches. That is the only gripe I have. So I am saying both parties have legitimate complaints but you shouldn't talk down one side because they don't agree with you. Hell, I am one of worst instigators of not backing down but sometimes you have to and in this case Niners had to.

Exactly.

Meh, I'm not exactly sure what I think about moving La Stella to the two-hole. I mean, I love him being in that spot, but he was absolutely raking where he was. The good thing is that Gattis being back makes this lineup so much better. There's NO easy outs. If Tommy can stay hot, this lineup could do work

Flukey just like Simmons in 2 spot. When all I said and done their OPS will be at normal career marks no matter their spot. Upton and Simmons should be at bottom.

You sure about that bro?

BJ Upton - .278 OBP
Simmons - .303 OBP
Johnson - .303 OBP

Those OBPs are the very definition of easy outs.

I am not advocating BJ Upton at any spot in our lineup. Let alone lead off.

What is a fluke? Tommy's OPS from the 7th spot? That is where the majority of his at bats have come from. Not a great number of at bats, but it's hardly a fluke.

I'm saying he won't maintain a .900 ops. Just like Simmons won't maintain anything over .700.
