Pete Van Weiren passes away at 69.

Sad stuff. Pete was a class act. I miss him and Skip so much!
 
I didn't know he was ill. 69 is far too young.

RIP Pete. You will definitely be missed.
 
Yeah, this is truly sad news. I wasn't aware that Pete was suffering from cancer either. Pete the last of the Braves iconic broadcasters. Braves Nation is in mourning for sure.
 
Prayers sent for the family. Pete, go buy Skip a Dewer's. Glad your suffering is over. Please keep an eye on us. We are gonna need it.

So long Professor. You were the best.

R.I.P. Professor. Those three were part of the draw for me in the '80s. Nobody did it better, and nobody tops it today. They took flak for being homers, but they also paid total respect to the opposition. That's not the case today now that every team has a network. Their legacy lives on in Chip, Joe, and Don. Their broadcast style is still there today.

Not that I would have known, but this kind of comes out of the blue. I thought he was older, but I wonder if an illness contributed to his retirement.

Regardless of what some critics may say, anyone who watched/listened to these guys in the 1980s knows that they weren't homers like the broadcast teams that haunt the airwaves today. They skewered--playfully--the ineptness of those mid-1980s Braves' teams and I never heard them bad mouth a member of an opposing team.

Sad, sad news. He (and Skip) defined a large part of my childhood while watching and listening to Braves broadcasts. RIP.
