Will this road trip mark the beginning of the end?

Averaging a hefty 2 runs a game the past week in typical fashion. We still march out the 3rd worst batter for average in the league amongst qualified players to bat lead off. He doesn't even steal bases well anymore on rare occasions he makes it to first.

To answer the question in the title, I would say no. There are ups and downs in any season. I think this team will win about 90 games. Probably good enough to a wild card but not the division title.

I think this road trip is simply exposing all the weaknesses this team has. Since a 17-7 start, over the past 87 games we are 41-46, a .471 winning percentage. This team simply isn't very good. It would not surprise me at all to not make the playoffs.

I usually agree with your posts, but I honestly don't believe they'll win 90.

Last night certainly had that kind of ominous feel about it. We are currently out of the playoff picture and only on pace for 84 wins. Sad. This team is better than that.

Don't know, but I do know niners and Virginia are salivating at the idea of it being straw that broke the camel's back.

Honestly, I don't see leadership in tough times “@HisDudeness88: @DOBrienAJC is there something going on in clubhouse us fans don't know?”

The re-making of the Red Sox is inspiring. Now they have attempted it twice in the past 3 years.
The Crawford contract, Adrian Gonzalez, Beckett and now Peavey-Lackey-Lester and Doubrant.

Is this a quote from someone or just DOB's opinion?

This.....

The talk about BJ really reminds me of the Uggla talk for the last 2 years. BJ is a problem, not the problem. Get rid of Uggla and we still can't score runs. Get rid of BJ and we'll still be not scoring unless we replace him with Mike Trout. Team can't hit for average, doesn't hit any better with RISP, can't play small ball worth a damn, and has lost its ability to hit for power.

And our Manager has no idea how to correct this. None. Anyone who thinks we're going to turn it around t this point in the season is an optimnist of major proportions.

I'm thinking this might be the end. The Braves can't even win the close ones now. They've lost their last 8 1-run games, and 1-6 in their last 7 extra innings. This is a team that usually wins those games because of the bullpen. They've lost basically every game that's been tied into the 9th inning for the last 2 months.

After hoping all season for a turnaround, I think it's over too. We just don't have the hitters to win games. I don't expect them to finish over .500

I suppose it can be said that the team has "lost its ability to hit for power" and that it "can't even win the close ones now." When it rediscovers the ability to do these things will it be because the manager figured out how to fix it or some player exercised leadership or something of that type. Not really. These things fluctuate randomly.

Still a lot of baseball left, but as I've said all season, this is a team that has to play well to win and it is not playing well right now. Athletically limited team.

I just see a lack of leadership all around. The guys are good, I think the team is good. They're just in no man's land. It sucks. I predicted this would happened but I hoped it wouldn't. The second that Huddy left I was afraid it would happen, it was solidified with the losses of Mac and medlen's injury. Hopefully something snaps and we do work before the Nats pull away.

If we can get through August 24th and still be in the race then we've got a shot. I feel like these next three weeks could determine our chance of making the playoffs. We have a chance to get buried here having to play the Dodgers, A's, Nationals, Pirates and Reds. Get through that section of the schedule and we've got a lot of games coming up against weak NL East opponents.

I'll feel real good about our chances if the NL East is still a close race on August 25th.

This is what we talk about every day-- this is a very young team -- Fredi pointed out there are a number of these players with a couple years MLB experience while at the same time no AAA experience. Not a very seasoned group.
This is where Mac is missed or Reed Johnson or Hudson. And even, Uggla.
Poit making is though I still ike the idea of the bunt last night hindsight tells us it was a huge rock. Fredi took responsibility then today Simba took the credit. The play turned out to be a Minor League mistake. Growing pain??

compare to the Nats or more to the point the Marlins/Mets and at the extreme - Phillies
& this group is 2.5 out? From the outside betcha people wonder why there isn't a monument for Fredi Gonzalez !!
