John Hart Turns Down GM Job

We are 17th in payroll and they are 18th this year. Wren has arguably made way better moves than Dayon Moore in the span of their tenures over the past 5+ years.

I'm not saying that I want Dayton. I'm just saying that I don't think the job he has done is so poor especially now that it looks like KC is poised to have sustained success as long as ownership spends money.

Do not want Moore. He lucked his way into the world series after years of dumb moves. Remember this is the guy who have Francoeur 2 years guaranteed money after both the Braves and Mets gave up on him.

Francoeur had a 20/20 year with them with an .800+ OPS and good defense. So, that wasn't a complete failure.

Sustained success, how? This is a team that got incredibly lucky just to reach the playoffs (pthag 84-78)

They have 2 hitters in the lineup that are above league average. (Gordon, Cain)

There Game 3 ALCS starter is Jeremy Guthrie.

There rotation is 32 year old Shields that will be gone soon. 35 year old Guthrie that isn't good, 31 year old Vargas that is average. They have a promising 23 year old in Ventura.

I just looked at their payroll, they actually signed Infante to a 4 year 30.25 million dollar contract this year? Wowzeers.

Watching teams like the Royals this year and the Giants every even numbered year luck into deep playoff runs make it even harder to fathom how the Braves could have possibly fell flat in every postseason this century. Seriously, they couldn't get lucky just one year during this stretch?

Looks like Friedman is hiring a GM under him in Los Angeles. Can we please just give Coppolella the job now before someone else offers him the job.

I usually don't agree with anything you say, but amen! I would have loved to see how us Braves fans would have reacted if we traded someone equivalent of Wil Myers ALONG WITH Jake Odorizzi (who is doing very well for Tampa) for a rental like James Shields. Mind you, it has worked out this year, but long term that could be damaging, especially since they can't afford Shields.

We have some company.

Teams that haven't won a World Series since we did in 1995: Tigers, Dodgers, Cubs, Mets among the big budget teams. Among middle to low budget teams: Rays, Orioles, Blue Jays, Twins, Royals, Indians, Rangers, A's, Mariners, Astros, Gnats, Brewers, Pirates, Reds, Padres, Rockies. A total of 20 teams haven't won since we last won.

We traded Andy Marte for Edgar Renteria.

We also traded Andrus and Feliz for Tex.

I wasn't here to see the fan reaction of the 1st one, but I know the critical response to the 2nd, that trade will never be forgiven. Same with the JD Drew trade. Those are pinned on John Schuerholz, not Wren though.

Marte for Renteria you have a point, but on the latter, no one we traded in the Tex trade was as valuable of a prospect as Myers. The **** part of that trade was we gutted our system for it.

Now Chipper is the latest to come out and bash Wren.

Geez, Wren must have been a real d-bag.

Wainwright for Drew was about as big of a rental deal as you're gonna find.

Drew was great for us that year, Waino would look great in our rotation.

I think it's a telling sign that Hart does not want to be the GM of the Braves. People would have jumped through flaming hoops to have a chance to run the Braves years ago. Now they aren't a desirable destination.

AJC: Schuerholxz on report of Hart declining GM job: "Not Accurate"

http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/baseball/schuerholz-on-report-of-hart-declining-gm-job-not-/nhjtf/

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Braves president John Schuerholz shot down a report that John Hart turned down the team's offer to be their full-time general manager.

In addition to stating that Hart turned down the job, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reported that the Braves were turning their focus to assistant GM John Coppolella and Royals GM Dayton Moore, with former Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd also potentially in the mix. "At best the article was not accurate with either the facts or the assumptions," said Schuerholz.

But he wants to stay on ? So....

He is 66 years old. The thinking has been all along is that he doesn't have the go get it left in him to be a full time GM for more than a short period.
