Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

Why not be a up front and honest with the fans and say he didn't want to extend Jason. Rather than imply that Jason was making unreasonable demands.

I thought integrity was one of his strong suits.

Because he did want to sign him long term but 20+ million for a sub .800 OPS outfielder is insane. Right field is just not a premium defensive positiin.
 
A minimum of due diligence would have included Hart or Coppy picking up the phone and having a chat with Heyward's agent before doing this. A minimum. Their not doing that is a disgrace and professional incompetence.

Not exactly. Speaking for myself, the only big change for which I was clamoring was the replacement of the team's manager. I thought the roster that ended 2014 had a real shot in 2015 with some creative tweaks and marginal changes.

That's a bunch of manure....if Heyward wanted to remain a Brave, he would still be a Brave....he had his opportunity ala Chipper and Andruw Jones. And the Braves we're willing to pay him good money, just not as much as Heyward wanted. And now we're suppose to feel bad for him....maybe we should....maybe his agent played the game wrongly and misplayed this entire situation ala Glavine....I guess both sides lose then.

I'm not siding with the FO and Hart on this one, but to think that there we're no negotations since spring training 2013 is a bunch of well ****. It's too bad, because here is a guy that is a local talent, very marketable in the Atlanta market....but I don't believe for one second that Hart and the rest of the FO didn't approach and have conversations with Casey Close to read on what it was going to take. And Hart over the years on MLB Network had nothing but glowing remarks for Heyward.

And Heyward knew it was coming, by his remarks on MLB radio a couple of weeks ago. He had his opportunity to step up to the plate and get a deal done but didn't.

LOL, call me crazy then (along with many others posting similar comments) because this an awful trade for a player of Heyward's ability and Walden is a solid set up man too.

The good old boys club must really overrated Miller the way some of y'all underrate Heyward.

Why not pick up the phone and make sure that in fact they are looking for 20+. What's the harm?

Paying attention to all of the talks, it was pretty clear that Heyward wanted something in the $200 million range. Just because the player doesn't think it's unreasonable doesn't mean that the Braves could afford him. Players parrot what their agents tell them to say in these things. I have little doubt that those numbers will become apparent soon enough.

CF, a platoon partner for Johnson, and a quality starter. That's how close we were.

Again, what's wrong with Hart picking up the phone sometime during the past few weeks to verify the price with Heyward's agent? He found the time to spend a day playing golf with BJ.

Maybe he did want that much. Maybe he didn't. But let me repeat. Why did Hart not find the time to have a conversation with his agent to verify this?

Wainwright's situation upon being traded to the Cardinals was much more similar to this Jenkins kid's situation than to Shelby Miller's. Miller's had two fairly full seasons in the big leagues, his peripherals are just not very good, and his ceiling doesn't seem to be much higher than a good number-three starter; I think he's overrated in part because of the sheen of the Cardinals system.
 
What a difference a year makes. A year ago we were locking up most of our young talent and now it seems we are in rebuilding mode. Apparently Freeman wasn't happy that Heyward got traded. And why should he be. He knows he's now on a team that's going to suck for a couple of years. Can't imagine Kimbrel is happy either.

And you truely believe that that did not indeed happen? Front Office personal, whether it be Hart, JC or someone else talk to agents everyday on a number of different subjects and don't for a second believe that Hart and Co. didn't have a good read on the situation and a feel for exactly what it was going to take to sign Jason?

Yes, he can play defense but so can Grego Blanco and Jorge Constanza.
I loved watching JHey but people are forgetting the Braves went all but a week without scoring a run - losing 400 innings from their starters and have no options at the Minor League level. For any off these issues.

again, who did you think they would get for Heyward ?? His value was his value
