Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

I've never been this upset/mad about a player leaving my team...I have a lot of wrath towards that **** John Hart right now. We have no OF replacement and apparently no money to sign anyone good.

We'll all see how important defense is when we see Gattis in LF this year. I completely believe Jason was blindsided and wanted to be here and didn't feel a long-term extension was discussed. I'll say it again: there's a reason a great, championship-winning organization coveted Heyward. They win and do things right. We haven't lately. This looks like another example of that. Sad day. I fully expect Jason to bust out.

If Jason is right, then this is stupid, not even discussing a new deal with him is so dumb.

Watching him patrol RF there for the next 6-8 years if he re-signs will suck if he reaches his potential there.

Holliday is off the books after 2016, man they're smart, they are everything you want the Braves to be but aren't.

I do think it's funny that those of us who are told we're wrong for waiting for an already productive player to reach his potential are being told to wait on a player, that is only one year younger than the player we had, to reach his potential even though he hasn't produced much in the majors. Baseball is funny...

TIL that a 3.40 era over 62 starts your first 2 years in the majors is not producing much. Can't wait to see what he does when he reaches his potential.

Sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious. Seriously, I don't see how anyone missed who you meant. :)

Very funny, but Heyward if he reaches his potential is a top 10 player.

Miller might become a #2.

But we'll suck for the next 2 years so really only have him for 2, doubt we'll afford him if he reaches his potential.

See the Red Sox going after Lester again right now. We are clearing alot of money and will have even more next offseason. If they could somehow find a way to get rid of BJ (package him with Minor or somebody else) then we could very well sign Heyward back next offseason. He's gonna test FA. He always was. Trade Justin and go after em both again next year.

I saw Blue Jays, Cubs for Lester, but i'd imagine Boston will make a push for him.

There isnt much next offseason, Stl could extend Heyward for all we know.

You fully expect Jason to bust out, even though he hasn't yet done it in 5 full major league seasons that encompasses 2819 plate appearances. His home runs have dropped from 27 to 14 to 11 over the past three. Could Jason break out, sure, but there is no evidence over the past 5 years to support that theory. We also would have only had him for one more season.

Meanwhile, we just picked up a very good, young pitcher who has a two year combined major league ERA of 3.33, WHIP of 1.23 who was even better the second half of last year, and we have this guy under control for not one year but four, plus we got a very high upside pitching prospect.

Heyward is far far far superior player, in what he brings to a team, than Miller at this point. Miller is not "very good." Look at this peripherals last year. Not very good. He didn't even K a lot of guys in his good 2nd half.

Jason is plenty young and has shown plenty of flashes.

I don't even know if "flashes" is the right word for Jason, because he's shown much more than "flashes."

Sorry but I was swamped at work all day.

I asked this earlier but I will ask it again...Did anyone actually believe that Heyward would have signed an extension here?

Other than a guy like Bautista usually hitters figure it out earlier. Heyward just couldn't battle his awkward swing.

Based of Jason's total career his recent power numbers suggest that it's just a fluke and maybe being asked to leadoff changed his approach. So him busting out while entering the prime of his career is likely. Of course that's buying into the assumption that Heyward has somehow not already been a very productive player already.

Shelby Miller's FIP numbers haven't been too impressive and his BABIP was incredibly low in the second half last season so that's more than likely not sustainable. The pitching prospect has to actually show said potential before we even entertain the thought of him having an actual upside.

Of course I could be wrong about all of this but Chris Johnson didn't magically sustain his incredibly high BABIP so maybe I'm not...

Heyward himself said he was never given the chance to

Do you think Heyward is going to say if his agent was presented with deals and he refused?

I mean, we hear the story from both sides but its their account of the real truth. There has to be some middle ground here.

My preference was always to keep Heyward long term but I think it was clear after the extension bonanza that took place last year that Heyward wasn't going to be a part of the future.

The return we got for 1 year of Heyward was excellent.
