Medlen, Beachy, Schlosser non-tendered

Schlosser move is surprising, but hopefully means we try our hands at the Rule 5. DeShields figure to go before we pick and he comes with character / makeup concerns, so he's probably a longshot for the Braves.

"Delino DeShields, of, Astros: Some teams will be turned off by his well-documented problems with not always showing his best effort—he’s been pulled from multiple games over the years for not running out balls. But other teams may be intrigued by some of the best tools in the Rule 5 draft. The minors’ only 10-100 man ever (12 home runs, 101 steals in 2012), DeShields plays an adequate center field, can also play second base, has more pop than most speedsters and has shown excellent on-base skills."

That would be the only reason, and I think they're right, he showed nothing. One more guy we can sign, now. Maybe something is brewing that will require roster space.

He probably has better odds in being a pitching coach somewhere. The way he dominated the lower minors, it's pretty obvious he got over by outthinking inexperienced hitters. A shame that skill didn't evolve with his opportunity.

#Braves made offer to Medlen that included $5.8M for '15 (same as he made in '14), but low salary on club option for '16.

#Braves haven't ruled out bringing back Medlen or Beachy as FAs. Offer to Medlen had 2nd-yr option w/ salary not satisfactory to him.

My comments: That was a stupid move IMO. I hope they don't sign him at anywhere near that in guaranteed money because a possible bullpen arm at best, and at likely only around half a season, isn't worth almost 6 million. The way this organization wastes millions we could use a lot better isn't changing it seems.

PS: Medlen not accepting the offer tells me already that he'll cost more than we should spend to re-sign him.

Timing is a bit surprising on Schlosser. They obviously don't think that much of Cody Martin, but I think he's a better prospect than Schlosser.

Hopefully Hart will prove better than Wren at cutting that off at the pass.

Well, we have already released two of our ROOGY's on the 40-man and our only true LOOGY too. So if we don't carry any of them it is harder for Fredi to misuse them. :)

Interesting... Wonder what the details are. If Meds is healthy we all know what he's capable of. Per bleacher report. Comments?

The problem is... its almost impossible to come back from 2 TJ surgeries... both Meds and Beachy have had 2 now.

Is he not aware he is coming off his 2nd TJ? Because if not, someone should let him know .

No kidding, the Braves probably offered him at least 8-10 million over two years and he still said no. If you ask me that is way too much, just as 6 million guaranteed is for this year, to be offering anyone coming off a second Tommy John. I like Medlen and Beachy both but you should not offer them much in guaranteed money given both our situation and what they're trying to overcome.

Wonder why they wouldn't offer Medlen a lower salary this year with an increase next season (performance based)?

If Medlen wouldn't take almost 6 million guarenteed this year along with an option year bringing it to at least 8-10 million over two years the way they offered it. Then that probably rules out that idea unless at least 10 million or more is in guaranteed money.

Right but here's my question...

1. We know we won't be getting Medlen for 1/2 the season (at best) so why not pay him say $3 million -plus incentives for games, games started, and innings pitched- this season. Then for next year have a team option for say $6-7 million.

2. This kind of reminds me of the John Lackey situation -where he is now playing for league minimum- and I wouldn't think players would now put themselves in a situation to take a pay cut in the year following a healthy season.

This is just me being curious and maybe I am thinking too much about a simple concept

Blaming Fredi and its just the offseason, how typical.

Ummm....ahhhh.....ok....I'm speechless.

And Schlosser was a piece of garbage, no future here besides 25th pitcher on 25 man pitching staff possibly.
