The eye test and stats both pass the test when it comes to guys like Heyward and Simmons.
Yes but how does that translate to wins and losses?

Bill James works for the Red Sox. Bill James loves Jason Heyward. Feel free to infer just a little.

So glad you brought up his name. Bill James just recently said WAR isn't a great measure at this time on the defensive side.
The ones winning most of the championships over the last 10 years have bought into them. But I'm sure our FO knows better...
The Cardinals, Giants and Red Sox have embraced advance metrics to build their teams. That's a fact. Defense, offense, pitching. They take it all into account. Why do you think the Cardinals wanted Heyward? I wish ours knew just a little about them. Maybe we'd have a little more success instead of going into the tank.
Do you think in light of our national discourse on domestic violence that this is an appropriate picture?
Cards arent a great defensive team, yet consistently win.
That's why there's a little thing called defensive runs saved...
They wanted him because Taveras died (RIP), had he not, they dont trade for him.
Everything with defensive metrics is very subjective.
So Bill James has an irrational love for Jason Heyward. Weird...
They still use advanced metrics. They clearly feel Jason's defense will help them keep consistently winning.

Oh so they were going to trade for whoever they could get. Interesting...
Everyone should love Heyward. He is really good at baseball. Some just disagree he is a 25 million dollar player.
