Braves sniffing around on Markakis; Official 4 years 44 million.

- 11/14/14: Close is valuing Heyward closer to $200m over a long term deal.

- 11/14/14: Apparently they are apart on both years and AAV by a "significant margin"-- I have no details as to what that means... [...] Casey has a good case for Jason at or slightly above $200

THE TRADE THAT RENT OUR HEARTS ASUNDER

- early, 11/18/14: Casey was adamant that any reasonable offer needs to start above $220

- late, 11/18/14: Jason would not have accepted anything less than $220-240m

- today: I don't know total years discussed (it was over 8) but the AAV was $27-28m. Total dollars were closer to 260m.

12/25/14 Jason won't accept anything lower than 500 million.

If Markakis needs surgery, then I'd rather he get it. Fixing a pre-existing injury is the best way to get him to beat all those projections.

I don't disagree, but any time you start talking about sticking scalpels and other sharp metal things into a player's neck, I get nervous about the long-term.

I knew those numbers were changing. Good catch!

Liberty Media should have just deeded the team over to Heyward, and let him pay them $25 mill/yr. He could then bring in Murph3 as a special assistant to the GM to arrange a trade for BJ that would've netted us both salary relief and a future ace, and finally in appreciation to all those beloved Braves' fans dropped the price of beer at Turner Field to $2.50...

It's worth noting that Markakis had a pre-existing, pre-existing (x2) neck condition (in 2013). You begin to worry about degenerative issues when it keeps cropping up.

Also, this would be the 5th surgery for Markakis in two years.

Honestly, if this happened, it would be proof that we are living in the best of all possible worlds.

We need to stop acting like Heyward was Chipper Jones. In what world should 22 be off limits?

Seriously. Heyward was no Chipper Jones or Dale Murphy. He wasn't even David Justice material.

The outrage over the #22 thing is funny to watch. What does it matter?

The attachment to Heyward is a head scratcher. Would I rather him still be here? Yes, but players come and go. They can't all be CJ who gave us his whole career.

Thank you for pulling this

We have Jason Heyward saying no contract talks happened int he last year. And we have a random (literally - his name is random) poster saying he wanted absurd amounts of money that continues to increase by the day.
