Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

Now the same source about Seattle being involved says this:

Boy this is getting crazy. Someone very connected now is telling me Seattle not the 3rd team in TB-SD rumored swap.
 
I'd imagine that the pads could/would get more in return for Myers than simply Walker as well. May be Pads get some combination of Paxton, Miller, Walker, or Pederson for Myers. Then they could flip us a package centered around Walker to us for Upton.

Myers would be a very good get for us. He would fit in well with what we are trying to build.
 
I wonder if the Braves would be willing to move Gattis, Upton, and Peraza in this hypothetical if it netted the team Walker, Myers and some prospects.

I don't see us trading Peraza, that was just nonsense from Bowden (common for him). But I could certainly see us trading both Gattis and Justin Upton in such a deal that includes Walker and Myers (if such a deal was on the table I'd expect we'd take it).

I think Myers is more valuable than Gattis, but if we had Justin going to SD as part of the deal, we may be able to net Myers plus a pitching prospect.

TB has a black hole at C and DH right now, so Gattis makes a lot of sense for them.
 
I don't see where Upton fits in this deal. No way San Diego would give up Myers for Upton. Would have to be Gattis to the Rays for prospects if anything at all. My guess is we're not involved in this.

Yea there's no way we wouldn't take it. But there's zero chance that Gattis and Upton would bring back Walker and Myers for us. Just would never happen. I don't really see us being involved in this deal. Myers is more valuable then Upton on one year or just Gattis. Maybe if there were a deal that sent Justin to SD, Gattis and Hedges to TB, Myers and Wisler or Joe Ross to the Braves.
 
Of course it's possible too that we are overvaluing Myers and undervaluing the Padres desire to win now. I tend to agree with the emerging consensus that the Braves aren't likely involved, but it's certainly fun to ponder.

Gattis to SD might make some sense since they just traded away Grandal for Kemp. pads now have a glaring hole at catcher.

They do have Austin Hedges who's getting very close. Not a huge bat but amazing defensively.

Exactly, Upton is a much safer bet than Myers for next season, and likely the next 2.
