Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

The main point is to pay forward the last year of his contract.

But the downside of that is that you are not using your farm system efficiently. Its more likely that we can't produce an outfielder long term than it would be for a back end rotation pitcher. Upton can at least defensively handle CF. There is more value in Upton IMO than Jackson.

BJ could not possibly get more worthless from a trade perspective than he is now. There is absolutely no risk in holding on to him for another year. There is no lose situation.

You know this is pretty much the first time in I would say 24 years that the Braves have pretty much decided to just concede the upcoming season. That has to be some sort of record.

Get to know them, boys:

It definitely is uncharted territory but I think a very necessary move. With the next move in sight (Gattis traded) its clear that the short term part of the strategy is a 2-3 year process.

It's 2017 which we all anticipated. Some have the patience for it, and some don't. I'll still support the Bravos the next two years. Two rebuilding years in the past 26 years. I mean is it really that bad?

You can grump about the moves, but it's a little obnoxious to at least not recognize the logic and value obtained in these moves. We got some nice value back in these trades.

A pathetic miscalculation by the front office. I hope attendance tanks Marlins style.

The problem is, it shouldn't be happening.

It I believe the rebuild will be quick. Our pitching is too good for it not to be. Teheran, Wood, Miller,Minor, Fried, Jensen, and Sims rivals any group of pitchers under 25. Throw in Kimbrel and I think we have the best group of young pitchers in the game.

Based on that picture, I'd let Jace Peterson date my daughter.

Based on the next picture, you've confused Dustin Peterson and Casey Kelly.

SO we traded Justin Upton and one of our depth pitchers.

We got in return, Max Fried, talented prospect (Sickels ranked him 3rd to start the season) who just had Tommy John. So yeah. Jace PEterson an interesting prospect who should start at 3B or 2B immediately though he'll inevitably struggle. Dustin Peterson, a 3B prospect who to put it nicely sucked balls in low A, he has lots of red flags. Mallex Smith hit pretty well in A ball, but didn't crack any notable top padres prospect list though should after last year.

If they work out it will look pretty nice as it largely long term solidifies our IF and adds a CF prospect and a quality arm. If it doesn't work out which there's tons of risk, we're boned.

How would that be any different than what would happen if we kept Upton for the year?

Step 1: Sell all the good players
Step 2: Plan to be bad at baseball
Step 3: Expect fans not to show up
Step 4: Move team out of the city

Just so we are clear, the Front Office is totally ripping off the plot of Major League.

Naked photos of the Liberty owner or it didn't happen
