Gattis Traded To Astros (pg. 13)

The worse we are next year the better at this point. I dont believe in retooling and Gattis isnt a real fit in the NL anyways, out of all of our pieces hes the one that makes the most sense to move.

Well, of course. Nothing groundbreaking there. But you said you didn't care about the return. When in fact that's a major factor of making that deciscion.

Only if we didn't trade Justin. Gattis is currently our LF.

Hart never gave that specification/qualifier. I believe we signed Toscano to be a starter or at least have the opportunity to be a starter. I would guess that the LF/RF starters will be Toscano and Markakis... not Gattis.

The only two positions that a trade partner would want Gattis to play would be C and DH.

Here are the NL teams who need a primary C:
- Arizona

Here are the AL teams who need a primary DH or C:
- Baltimore
- Texas
- Tampa Bay

You could argue that Texas needs help at both DH and C, so it makes sense that they've reportedly had interest in Gattis.

Baltimore too

Evan needs to be traded, but only for one or two premium prospects, not guys that have a bench or marginal starter ceiling.

I think Texas is not only the team with perhaps the greatest need for Gattis, but also might be the team with the best prospects that we would want. I propose:

Rangers get: Evan Gattis

Braves get: Nomar Mazara and Jake Thompson

Anything short of a package similar to this and I'd wait until we got one. Evan still have 4 years of control, so we could easily wait until the July deadline in 2015 or next offseason. Do not settle for anything less.

Yep. Why do we need to pay him all this money if we don't plan on scoring runs?

Also will make people realize how stupid this rebuild plan was.

Closers are much more valueable at the trading deadline IMO. There could be a big time contendor that either loses their closer to injury or ineffectiveness and you can even have a situation where a team comes out of nowhere and their big hole is closer. I prefer the approach to trade him midseason to a desperate team.

That being said, I wouldn't be that disappointed if Kimbrel is never traded. At some point we are going to be good again and it would be nice to have another legacy Brave.
