Why Do Liberals Hate 'American Sniper'?

Finished! Loved the movie. Cooper deserves an Oscar. He completely disappeared in the role in the best way possible.

Two things I heard going in. 1. The movie was anti-Islam. I expected there to be a few points made about the religion of the terrorists or something like that, but Islam was not mentioned a single time. Not once. 2. That the soldiers and Kyle in particular calls the enemy savages constantly. There was a three to five minute period where Kyle and one other soldier called them savages. Five or six times total. Pretty sure they never used the term before or after.

I will say that the environment after the movie ended was the perfect place for someone like myself to get shot.

Oh, he does. They pulled some people out of Gitmo for it, from what I understand. But they don't mention in the movie that those people are Muslim.

If the liberals hate this one, who knows what the reaction to Brown Around Town will be. Have you guys heard about it yet? The plot is something about the police desecrating Michael Brown's body, so he returns as a revenant that can turn people into zombie recruits. He raises an army of black zombies and they slaughter police officers, soldiers, and republicans.

He clearly had issues, as I think even the best of us would after killing 160+ people at (as the scope essentially creates) close range. Probably had a few before, being from Texas and all. But we turn people into monsters to protect us from other monsters and when we're through with them we release them back into civilization and basically do nothing to help them. It's a ****ty situation, one I wish more people would make the people in charge pay for more than their pawns.

That's a shame. What has happened to the publishing industry is a shame. Harper Collins used to be a reputable company.

I'm not sure that the article mentions it, but FWIW, HarperCollins is a subsidiary of Fox—and like the rest of that organization, it's tabloid bottom-feeding all the way through. Shame that it's so lucrative.

It's never that cut and dry. And instead of ****ting all over Kyle largely for not being perfect and for having issues caused by the very events people are trying to discredit, **** on the people you think are taking advantage of the "sad story." Or, you know, acknowledge that we are at war and that maybe, just like Kyle, the enemy isn't perfect and might actually have a little bit of the blame.

But to turn the Iraq war into a saccharine, almost PG-rated two-hour cinematic diversion about a killing machine with a heart of gold (is there any film theme more perfectly 2015-America than that?) who slowly, very slowly, starts to feel bad after shooting enough women and children – Gump notwithstanding, that was a hard one to see coming.

Sniper is a movie whose politics are so ludicrous and idiotic that under normal circumstances it would be beneath criticism. The only thing that forces us to take it seriously is the extraordinary fact that an almost exactly similar worldview consumed the walnut-sized mind of the president who got us into the war in question.
