15 points 5 rebounds

No blocks, steals, assists.

Where have I seen this before?

Two things:

1. This was in 23 minutes against one fo the best defensive centers in the league

2. Thunder don't need anything else from Kanter because of the teammates around him

Chop, I just wish you could have some context as to how bad its been for the Thunder at the center position. I feel like I'm watching Kareem right now in comparison to what I've watched the last seven years.

Man, just awful news about Rose. Man needs to walk away from the game so he doesn't severely cripple himself for the rest of his life.

He's 6'11 and hasn't blocked a shot in 3 games and doesn't get steals, plays no D, he posts empty lines....if that gets you going, more power to you.

He's probably between the 15th and 20th best center.

He has played defense so far for the Thunder. Defense is primarily about effort. Lets see what effort he brings into a new situation.

It seems like a lot of you discount "fit" too often in basketball. In such a team oriented game that stuff matters. Who a player is in one situation isn't necessarily who they are going to be in another.

I understand as long as you understand that he's been the exact same player that he was in Utah.

I also understand that he fits a role for the Thunder. I just hope you understand that until he improves those other facets of his game, then he's going to be limited to those two factors.

Exact same.

Probably in the 20's.

You need to be a good run protector to be considered a top center.

A) everyone plays defense from your evaluations

B) good defense almost always in some capacity is reflected in the data. Kanter could be an outlier, but there isn't any evidence to suggest that he is.

In fact, there is 4 years of plus/minus data that suggests the Jazz defense improved dramatically when he went to the bench.

Well, he had 5 assists in his first two games which is insane for him because he had so few in the a long stretch with Utah.

Again, I believe that basketball is about the whole over the sum of the parts and players play better in different combinations. So far Kanter has performed admirably against Jefferson/Hibbert defensively. Thats not too shabby. Will that last? I have no clue but I have not seen a defensive liability thus far in his first three games.

I have always felt that these adjusted plus minuses are more correlation than causation.

That's fine, but over that large of a sample size when regressed (real plus minus). You shake off a lot of that noise.

Also, I remember you saying you like real plus minus when we talked about Jimmy Butler a couple months back?

Thats because I have to talk your guys language if I want to gain any traction. I liked Jimmy Butler since he was a rookie after watching a few of his games. I knew the guy would be a stud. In this instance the numbers backed me up so I used them to argue my point with you all.

You are backing my earlier claim that you use analytics, not to evaluate, but to cherry pick in order to fit your narrative.

The objectivity wall has been demolished and destroyed .

Because the only thing you guys seem to take seriously are stats. I wish that weren't the case.

When I give my analysis based on what I see I get sarcastic/disrespectful responses from the peanut gallery. Are you going to speak English when talking with someone that speaks Italian?

And what's wrong with that? He knows how to score the ball. The Thunder desperately needed that from his position.

The game is just a series of simulations to some people based on statistical models. It is what it is and I have to learn to accept that.

Kanter could end up playing more motivated because he didn't like the situation in Utah or he could develop (GASP!) in a different system.
