Net Neutrality

Im talking past tense. 25 is insane. Glad porn can get here in 0.0000000000004 seconds instead of 0.0000000000000006

It really isn't insane. It's less than 1/4 what I have (just tested at 133 Mpbs), and some of my activities still take too long. Part of that is due to upload, which is abysmal in most places.

I could also point to having drastically better internet speeds now than I did 5, 10, or 15 years ago without the necessity of net neutrality.

True. But the internet is something that's been growing rapidly. It can't be looked at in time reference close to most other things. Consider if you will, mobile tech. iPhone improved their processor speed by 25% from A7 to A8. We should hav emuch faster internet. We're not terrible, but the reason we're not terrible is because of FIOS, google Fiber, and similar techs. I'd rather see the break up of the big ISPs personally but that will never happen in pro-corporate America.

Has nothing to do with porn and everything to do with more devices connecting to the internet than ever.

Let's use the 5 years ago excuse. Aside from the handful of early adopters, how many people had non-PCs attached to their network? Sure you had some smartphone users but Tablets essentially didn't exist. Cloud storage didn't exist. The new age of tech is going to require more internet access. Hence the boost in speed minimums. If they widened broadband so that more devices could connect at 10 MbPS that would also be acceptable but I don't think that will change.

I think you would make the perfect arbitrator. Maybe you can unite the negabraves and posibraves while you're at it.

well, thank you

but that is another bad example

what is the goal of uniting those 2?

How is government going to speed up progress?

net neutrality was happening during those times

you know that right?

it isn't actually something that is new

i trust big business to act fair and not choose which websites should be streamed fast to me

no way i would believe they try to kill their competition in such a way that it would slow traffic so much that i couldn't visit the site i like

comcast and cox etc seem like great companies that are only out for my best interest

Who do you trust more, Comcast or the government?

Who do you trust more, Comcast or the government?

That is quite a question.

giles remind me the next time you have a vote on the direction of COMCAST - or you are eligible to participate in the decision making of COMCAST. Or can petition COMCAST to become the head of COMCAST.

Really is quite a question - kind of defines the state of our national affairs. From Ferguson to the letter to Net Neutrality etc etc etc. I could throw in the invasions/occupations of the last decade

Isn't putting more faith / trust into business institutions the crux of WWII ??

Whether I have a vote or not has no affect on whether or not I trust the gov't. I could easily become a shareholder in Comcast (and maybe already am, who knows).

Putting faith in the gov't is an awful idea. How long did they litigate Janet Jackson's nipple? When have they ever used regulation to improve?

Read your cell phone/landline bills. How much of it goes to taxes? You ready to do that with internet service as well?

That's a bad example considering how rapid cellular communications have advanced in comparison to the home broadband. Aside from new competitors like Google Fiber and FIOS, landline cable has been the same for years. They "find" ways to increase speeds when competition enters the ring. But infrastructure is the same and speeds have improved, but not that drastically. Conversely on the mobile side of things, 10 years ago we saw the 2G networks with their dial up speed, then came the 3G networks with their DSL speed, then 4G with the cable comperable speeds, next up is 5G. Basically in about a decade, mobile moved from dialup to DSL, to something comperable to Cable or Fiber depending on if you have LTE or LTE advanced. Right now, my Cable (i'm on one of the higher plans available to me. IIRC one from the top but I could be wrong) On my phoen I get about 9 MBPS download and 7 MBPS upload, on my cable I get about 11 download and 1 upload. If I didn't have a limit on my mobile data, lets say there existed a company who offered truly unlimited data up here, I would jump on it in a heart beat. I get a little faster download but a much slower upload. Keep in mind I tested both on th esame device. You can have issues if you don't do the tests from the same device and the same app as you can have different issues. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate having my cable provider, but I don't want them controlling what content I have access too. I have TWC. If they gave HBOgo the fast lane and slowed down Amazon which I prefer to often watch HBO reruns on (it's a better app on the roku and XBox)

The fact you have a vote for government marks the difference between gvt and business. Next week you will argue business has no responsibility to the public however gvt is wholly responsible to the public. Get involved

As to what gvt accomps this one ex.
I read last week about the smog levels in LA
http://www.care2.com/causes/los-angeles-kids-are-healthier-since-pollution-levels-have-dropped.html

The wing of governance you attach yourself to were the core of the JJ litigation.

Do you understand why landline-cell phones are taxed ? The future I see has internet servce being a utility like electricity or water or sewer --

question giles -- do you consider public utilities to be government ?
Provided I pay the bill I have water 24/7 my toilet flushes and the lights go on.

Business is for profit and answerable to no one except investers. Government is not for profit and answerable to everyone.
Both have their purposes
