Spring Training 2015

Peterson last AB was his best IMO, he fell behind 0-2 early before working a walk, then he stole second and moved to third on the bad throw. Which led to a few more runs this inning. I like Peterson in the two hole but I'd give him a look leading off too as I don't like EY Jr. leading off.

I enjoy watching the team score runs. I don't care how they do it. There is no mythical old-school purity test that runs have to pass in order to make me happy.

I do appreciate your telling me how I feel about the team, though.

Well you know...we don't see much eye to eye anyway. If you gonna dish you have take some back.

Is it possible that Jace Peterson on his own will provide more value than Upton would have had for the Braves for the remaining one season?

edit - unless you mean Jace's 6 years vs Justin's one year.

I suppose it's possible. Would need to average about .8 WAR per year probably. But that doesn't make him more valuable than keeping Justin. I hope you understand that

Are you talking this year, or over the course of Peterson’s career with the Braves? If the former, I have to say no, if only because I lack faith in the team’s willingness to start him. If the former, absolutely, especially if he gets a chance to start at third with Peraza at second. I’d love to see those two in the lineup with Smith in center … assuming they can find an impact bat or two for the corner outfield spots.

We can discount to the present if you'd like but also need to include a factor of payroll flexibiilty in the current year.

I wouldn't be shocked if Peterson puts up a higher WAR than Upton this year if Fredi actually starts him most games. I think defensively Peterson is much more valuable than Upton. Upton is a negative defensively and Peterson looks like he's going to be comfortably in the positive.

Well, from a straight WAR perspective, theoretically 6 years of a starting caliber player is gonna outvalue 1 year of an expensive good player... but I'm not sure you could ever justify making that swap.

For example, even it we were likely to get 6 WAR out of Jace's next 6 years, vs 4 from Justin next year - would you make that trade? I wouldn't.

Then you have to factor in salaries, and you're likely paying Jace more per WAR than JUP.

As Weso said. If he starts at second base I wouldn't be surprised if he posts a 2-3 WAR this season. He looks good over there and should be decent at hte plate.

Some folks struggle with delayed gratification. It will be nice to see some immediate returns from the Heyward/Upton trades—Miller and Peterson could very well do that.

I think the Braves are going to make out well in both trades personally.

Can't wait to see what Mallex Smith does this season.
