Spring Training 2015

If no one gives him another shot, I'd give Maholm a minor league deal if he's willing to go to Gwinnett. I'm all for depth and Paul Maholm is very similar to Eric Stults (both had a good ST too but Reds still let Paul go).

Depth is good. We're going to see—Lord knows, we're gonna—an injury in the rotation. SP depth is never bad.

They don't have plenty of money. You could make the argument they have 10-15m... that gets you... Nick Markakis.

I think it's closer to, 20 million or more. We have at least 10-15 million to play with if payroll simply stays the same as it is now. I'd say it's fairly likely payroll will increase.

Also, Atl can compete for a WC in 2016 depending what moves are made, hardly some insane statement.

Gosselin defense hasn't been as good this Spring, his 4th error tonight led to two runs. And in the 9th he missed another but Peterson saved the day making a great play to get the out. Further, Peterson has played great defense this ST and made it look easy doing so.

We have potentially 1 or 2 already on the roster. And possibly another with Peraza.

Correction on the opt out dates for both Wandy and Stults. It is Friday, not tomorrow. #Braves

Doesn't hurt to have a couple more days to figure all this out. Tomorrow is the deadline to cut arbitration eligible players and only have to pay 25% of their salary. So there's a possibility one or two more interesting names come on the market that the Braves will consider. They'll also need to make a decision on Outman tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised if he's scheduled to pitch. Hope he performs well and they keep him.

Fredi has backed off his stance of Wandy having won a job. This whole 5th starter situation is weird. Folty seems clearly not ready, yet they continue to maintain that he's in the hunt. Really hoping he goes to AAA. If they're intent on trading Wandy, then let's get a retread off the waiver wire to join Stults in the rotation for a month.

@JeffPassan
Braves chose to keep Kelly Johnson and place him on 25-man roster at deadline today. Good depth piece who can play 1B, 2B, 3B and OF.

I'd say its Stults instead. Hopefully Minor comes around and we only have to keep one of those guys all year.

BTW Dodgers released Jamey Wright today, wouldn't he be the viable 7th reliever that we're looking for?

Dumb Dodgers. Don't they know they could have traded Wright for a prospect instead of releasing him???

Yes it's pretty insane if you think about it. Washington, St Louis, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Miami are and will be better than the Braves. Don't see this team getting into playoff contention for a long time now.

You know this how? A lot can change between now and next year. We could make some good mid season trades that help us, those teams could fail to live up to expectations or have injuries that set them back. Games are playing on the field, not on paper as KC proved last year. Quit being negative for the sake of being negative.

You're better off not even asking him to elaborate. Just let him troll.
