Braves in talks with DBacks for Trevor Cahill

As long as I'm reading these stats right from his fangraphs page it looks like Cahill had his highest percentge swinging strike rate along with his lowest contact percentage for his whole career. For what its worth, David Price had a swinging strike rate of 10.5% last year.

His fastball velocity was .2 MPH off his highest in his career and his sinker .1MPH slower.

I'm just not sure these reports are accurate iwth the data we have. I don't watch the guy pitch ever so many the eye test tells a different story but I think with Simmons/Peterson and hopefully a better 3B behind him then we could flip him for a nice prospect at the deadline or just use his option next year.

His GB rate was lower last year, but his BABIP was way higher than his career average. So, it's reasonable to think that poor baseball luck played a part in the lower GB rate.

Cahill is no world-beater, but I think he's a good candidate to bounce back from his performance last year. Will have a better pitching coach, better home ball park, and is likely to have better luck from a BABIP perspective.

Well, we had to find a SP that could match Harang's ugliness factor from last season.

That's a couple of good looking dudes, man. They can both do damage. Fredi starts on the left side of the table and one of these dudes on the right. So it stays balanced, doesn't flip over.

And he will havevTron

I don't think he sucks at all. I think he will be a reliable 3 for us.

Yeah, I have watched him a bit. And the eye test is where he fails with me. I see his FIP XFIP look pretty good. But I dont think he's a bounce back candidate even though he's the classic regress to the mean type.

I see Martin developing into a consistent 200-inning #3.

I realize you like Martin, but maybe what you predict happens on Jupiter or Mars. I doubt it happens on this planet.

Thing that kills me about the criticism of Cahill is that when he pitched for the A's, he caused sticky pants in here because somehow Billy Beane knows everything. He goes to Arizona and becomes dog food. I honestly don't know how good he is, but I find the turn on a dime mentality here quite amusing.

I still like Cahill. And we'll see regarding Martin.

A little more. And touching 94 in many appearances. Per Pitch f/x.

A few sites I read said he averages 89-90 mph with his sinker, that was what I was going by along with memory and trusting MLBTR too. But after checking further you're correct that he can touch 93-94 mph and regardless whether that is with his four-seam fastball or sinker it's not accurate to call him a soft-tosser as MLBTR did. However, I still wouldn't say that he throws a 94 mph sinker given his average velocity with it.

That said, I have not been impressed with him in years and I don't expect that to change.

I mean, I literally just fired up mlb the show and the next game I was playing was the All Star game. And guess who the freaking starter for the NL team was??? Trevor Cahill. That is just freaky. You can't make this crap up.

@mlbbowman
The #Braves need to review medical records, but it sounds like they are close to a deal with the D-backs for Trevor Cahill.

@mlbbowman
If completed, the #Braves would likely also receive a comp pick. Would be responsible for a little less than half of Cahill's $12M salary
