GDT 8/1/13: Rockies (Bettis) @ Braves (Teheran) 7:10 PM

"Those are area codes." — Chip, on Todd Helton hitting .372 and .358 in two separate seasons

Well, Chip, a lot of numbers are area codes. For instance, 224 is a suburban Chicago area code, but nobody's messing themselves over that batting-average.

Pretty sure he doesn't know the difference between them and zip codes.

What do you guys think of this Bettis kid? He's got a good fastball and has shown a good slide piece as well. I haven't really seen a decent third pitch though.

Well, Chip, a lot of numbers are area codes. For instance, 224 is a suburban Chicago area code, but nobody's messing themselves over that batting-average.

Somewhere Chip has a notebook with a page headed "AREA CODES THAT COULD BE BATTING AVERAGES (GOOD)"

Right next to it is one headed "AREA CODES THAT COULD BE BATTING AVERAGES (BAD)."

He just muffed the delivery.

I mean, the dude studies his craft. He does his homework. Undortunately, he sucks at his job anyway. He should do what his old man seemed to be doing--just take a couple of pops and wing it. Or just break the llelo out early.
