Well, I'm guessing this was done because of a number of factors. I'm not willing to say publicity. Maybe the climate changed. Who know.s Again I'm not willing to belittle this on the risk that it will alienate people from doing this in the past.

True, but the party can do better, even if Gary Johnson and Rand Paul are inevitably ignored. Even if I don't agree with everything Rubio, Walker, or Bush says, I view those guys as legitimate upgrades over the Santorums of the party.

I'm not voting for any of those three, but yeah, I think they are better, smarter, less crazy than the bottom of the barrel guys like Santorum and Graham.
