Affordable Care Act

$52K isn't a living wage?

I guess the mininum wage should be... $50/hr?

i thought you were the one telling me that her wage wasn't enough and is becoming hard to live on that etc etc

did i misunderstand your words?

i wasn't also just talking about your friend

Also - I'm not fighting for an oligarchy. I'm fighting the people's rights to earn what they are valued at. You travel a lot - I guess I can safely assume you "make too much money." You're money should be going to poorer folks.

By the way - the majority of lockeed's money is coming from the government... so you should be picking the fight with them

the end of your fight is an oligarchy. some of my money does go to poorer folks. the sad thing is most of it goes to much richer folks

it isn't a secret that i have been against corporate welfare for a long time.

She is struggling more with the student loans... she's living fine - but the increased health care didn't help.

But back to your point - I think you make too much money. You travel too much

these statements don't add up

- she makes $52K a year... not bad at all... But her healthcare is like $150 a month, and her student loan debt is about $1200 a month. Her healthcare has gone up every year since 2011. She doesn't qualify for the subsidies - but the burden is starting to get extreme

Curious position there as she is making about 40% more than the national median - and about 65% more than the median of folks her age.

i think you need to make up your mind on what your stance is on your example before using it more in the future

cool. that's your opinion on that

i'm not going to throw my hands in the air and say "oh well, what can you do?!" for the rest of my life. the anger at poor people is totally misplaced.

But all you can do is throw your hands up or not buy the product or service. They only get paid what their business makes and we have no say in it, none, nada unless risk putting people out in the streets. If the government tries to force them, they will take the jobs elsewhere, which they are doing now anyway because certain factors is forcing them. Heck right now small businesses are closing in this city. They cannot afford the pay people are requesting. I was shocked at a few of them. The owners themselves are in houses smaller than mine and drive beat up sedans.

The point is... rather than saving money to buy a house - she's paying off loan debt and increasing health care premiums.

You didn't answer my question

I don't know how much their CEO make. Should it be over $33,000,000? Is that where she's "valued" at?

Point is, if your friend wants to bitch about how her insurance costs $150 a month, a small sacrifice from their CEO making over $33,000,000 would go a long way. But na. Let's blame the poor people! it's their fault!!!! taking all the resources!!

but yes, let's ignore how that number is absolutely absurd (especially for a government contracted company - my taxes go to that? to give her more money?). let's forget their CFO got a 50% increase in pay from 2013 to 2014. let's blame trying to make sure every citizen has health care in our 1st world nation. that's the problem.

I can't not buy Lockheed's product - I don't, or maybe I do unwillingly through my taxes (wars!!!).

"They only get paid what their business makes and we have no say in it"
"they" (executives) frequently have businesses that lose money and their pay still goes UP. all they do is cut down on their liabilities (employees). so it ****s the middle and lower class again.

corporate greed is a much bigger problem than trying to make sure everyone gets health care.

Dan, I do agree with you. I get bent out of shape when I see my friends IT jobs get shipped overseas or manufacturing jobs get shipped to Mexico when the union force their hand and lost. And you are right, those jobs were lost because the shareholders wanted an extra $28 dollars a month on their stock and the CEO got a huge pay raise.

But seriously what can you or I do about it outside of a revolt.

Lot of pub gaining steam that double digit rate increases will be in store for policy holders come 2016. Temper enthusiasm until carriers get a good grasp on just how blind they are going into the rating process.

Have you heard the scary and shocking news? In 2016, health insurers are looking to dramatically hike insurance premiums for plans sold through the Affordable Care Act’s federally facilitated marketplaces. That, at least, is the takeaway from stories published by Fox News, The Hill, and other outlets reporting on preliminary data on the ACA released by the White House recently. Conservative news outlets jumped on the news as proof that the Affordable Care Act is failing to live up to the promise of its name. John Boehner’s office rounded up literally every scary headline about Obamacare premium hikes to claim that the law “is set to deliver an even bigger blow to working families next year.” It’s a huge scandal! Obamacare is failing! The lies are finally being exposed! And so forth.

57 is already on top of this super sleuthing out this false headline sturg.

I work in the insurance business and posted this weeks ago, but he knows the truth!

Yeah, the insurance industry is out to make a profit ...

doesn't take that much sleuthing.

Auto insurance expected to go up this year too.

Sen Sanders had his way, insurance companies would have nada to do with health care.

Are y'all ready to sign on? Or does that socialist label scare you off ?

..............

Or, do y'all want it both ways, steady health care pricing & something to bitch about

I understand that today you wouldn't want universal care and we all hope that there never is a day when you need universal care.

Kinda like that saying that came out of Hurricane Sandy -
"everyone is a libertarian until their house is under 10' of water"

Yeah you've repeated that many times. Not sure what you're point is. I sure hope I'm never at the mercy of needing the inefficient and ineffective government for survival.

If I could a) be legally allowed to live in Madrid for more than than three months or b) survive in Madrid for two years on 15K euro ... then sign me up.

There's literally nothing literal about that statement, at all, except for the notion that Spanish healthcare is cheaper than American healthcare.
