Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

Wood has a better WAR than Zimmerman, Bumgarner, or Lester this season. We're trading him for a 30 year old who doesn't have a single major league AB, has a bad elbow, and who hasn't even played professionally in couple years. Wow. Just wow. I can't even begin to wrap my mind around why Hart wouldn't laugh and hang up much less that he would agree to try to pull off such a complex trade that's so lopsided against us.

So you'd rather have the guy that has been trending the wrong way instead of the guy who's been trending the right way? And the addition of a pitch is directly correlated with that trend.

And actually the trade still have not been complete, and its all speculation of the final product.
 
I'll be interested to see if the deal is as stands or if we are getting something extra. I'm going to go out and say no, this is probably it, but you never know.

Honestly, we can replace Peraza easily and Wood (whom I love) can be replaced if we get a TOR guy this year, but we over payed and I think Hart probably knows that. He's not an idiot. He's taking a shot because he (and the scouting department) really really likes Olivera, they trust his health and they think he is a true difference maker on a team that is dying for another bat.

I've yet to read anything substantive aside from fan speculation that would back up the idea that Wood is 'trending the wrong way'.

What makes you think that?

You are likely right -- but I'm still holding out for more.

This deal unbelievably favors the Dodgers as it currently stands.

Not to me, it doesn't. Because he isn't their only player. They're an insanely well-rounded team. They traded from a strength to get a player they need - which was fine, I'm not saying right now they totally lost. But IF they win it, that doesn't mean they hosed us, they'd just be 100% content, and they should be. We could both be winner, IMO.

There is almost zero chance that it ends up smelling like Roses unless Olivera drinks jesus juice and is a great hitter for 6 years. I made a little graph on how baseball players age: The first arrow (good); the second arrow (bad)

It's possible there's a piece that we don't know about (as happened when we traded for Teixeira and guys kept getting added) but I doubt it. None of the writers from any of the teams has mentioned there being anyone else involved and LA is usually a market with sufficient media attention that something would have leaked. I will reserve final judgment for when/if the trade is completed. In the interim, the trade as it's currently being reported is so bad that I can't imagine how Hart talked himself into it.

Heyward has been at the epicenter of St. Louis' success. Let's not try to discount the poor guy's contributions for the sake of argument.

I never said that we 'lost the deal' if the Cardinals won the World Series, just that they accomplished exactly what they set out to do if they win it.

Well the deal is hung up on something... and I've seen plenty of deals where all the writers were wrong with the final product.
 
I simply do not understand the need to rush trading Wood. Wood for Olivera is bad, but it can be rationalized and argued, I suppose. Once you move into trading Peraza and Chris Johnson is not a part of this, then it falls on its face.
