Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

How do you know about the sinker? Either way his groundball % hasn't improved significantly if at all. I don't think you can just write off the concerns with Wood's velocity decline and k/9 decline.

There was an article on talking chop before the year that I have posted in this thread. He says he changed his mechancis to get his arm in better position to had a couple inches of sink. And you aren't talking about much velocity because his first year he was used in the bullpen. He's average 90 on the fastball now versus about 90.5 last year.

Notice the big change in movement for his sinker: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo....ype=2&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=07/30/2015

What's he going to say? "I legit lost some velocity and can't explain it?"

..What?
Hamels is a far better and more dependable pitcher right now. His IP matter a TON to a team, throughout the season AND in the playoffs. Wood is not on his level, at all. What are you using to say he is, besides xFIP and FIP?

Most numbers. ERA and FIP being the biggest 2. Those are far more important than K rate, since K rate is actually just part of the FIP formula.

Debatable, but no one can argue that Olivera should have necessitated his inclusion.

Friedman and the rest of baseball are laughing at the Johns right about now.

Before I put you on ignore, the reality is much of baseball is wondering what Hart knows that seemingly nobody else knows. Baseball is too busy laughing at the Padres and Mets.

If you attempt to get more movement, you are going to lose velocity. Its basic 101. I guess since he's now an ex-Brave, he must be lying (and killing puppies)

"Most" numbers? Pitching to an FIP of 3.30 in 220 IP is far more valuable than in 170 IP. They are not similar pitchers. Innings matter when talking about aces. Hamels is up there, Wood is not (yet). We cannot compare them. Hamels is a few steps above.

And pitching to an FIP of 3.30 in 6 ⅔ innings in a playoff game is pretty similar to a 3.30 FIP in 7 ⅔ innings in a playoff game. That's my only point.

If you think Wood is close to Hamels, you're dismissing track record and durability/dependability, which again, are two HUGE aspects of being a front line SP. Not many guys do what Hamels has done.

That wasn't your only point, but whatever. Wood is not near the pitcher Hamels is, and that's my point.

I'm not arguing that part. Don't love the trade... still excited to see Olivera.

I'm marginally excited for Olivera. Once I heard of his potential issues and defense and fatigue concerns, I became against us even signing him. Getting him for the money we'll pay him may make the risk worth it, but not at the additional cost of Wood and Peraza. Oliver's may give us something, but we should get better value than his potential because of his risks. We actually got worse value than even his potential should bring.
