Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

#Braves plan was always overstock young SP to get bats. Looked at fr agt mkt not many hitters available. So turned Wood into Oliveras

I've been saying this for a while now. It was a flaw in the trading strategy to go so heavy for pitching in return basically ignoring bats, especially power bats.

I don't like the trade. Not because of what was given up but because Olivera is 30 with medical problems. I would have much preferred high end minor league bats that were a year or two away but who would have a good chance of being a core player(s) for years to come.

I think what you are seeing to a certain extent is that bats are expensive now and will be moving forward until the cycle changes.

The #Braves announce the 3-team trade with the #Marlins & #Dodgers is official

Dodgers got a rotation now of Kershaw, Greinke, Latos, Wood, and Anderson

All they had to give up was none of their top prospects and an old guy who probably wouldn't play there this year anyway.

I feel like MLB needs a version of Financial Fair Play cause Dodgers are royally ****ing the league

And now they can go and sign Price and Cueto and hold on to their draft picks

And the Braves willingly bent over and took it

Cannot wait for the Johns spin job on this one. Is there even a way to put a positive spin on this? Got hosed! Ridiculous! Cannot fathom how the leadership that pulled off all those great deals fell for this load of crap. Hector Olivera better be a .280 with 25+ HR for 5+ years. Unbelievable.

Dealing Peraza away was probably a tough pill to swallow for the Braves, who have long lauded him as one of their top prospects. The 21-year-old entered the season as a consensus Top 50 prospect in the game, and though his offensive numbers are down somewhat, that’s not necessarily a red flag for someone playing at the minors’ top level at the age of 21. That’s not to say, of course, that Peraza’s numbers are poor; he’s hitting .295/.319/.380 this season. Peraza ranks as the game’s No. 26 prospect on the midseason Top 50 from Baseball America and No. 30 on MLB.com’s midseason update to their own Top 100 prospect list. Peraza began his career as a shortstop and eventually moved to second base, but it’s not certain where the Dodgers project him in the future. He has little power but draws rave reviews for his speed and glove, and he’s swiped 149 bases over his past 310 minor league contests. I feel it should be noted that Peraza, too, could be a piece that the Dodgers will consider dealing, as they’re reportedly reluctant to part with their own top prospects: Corey Seager and Julio Urias.

Worth noting: Dodgers adore multiposition flexibility. Got UT Kike Hernandez, C/2B Austin Barnes and now Jose Peraza, who can play SS/2B/CF.

This is what happens when the smartest FO in the game moves to LA and suddenly has unlimited money to play with. They are finding all sorts of creative ways to use thier monetary advantage to acquire talent without breaking any thresholds or rules.

Essentially, they are just smarter and richer than everyone else. It was a lot easier when the rich teams were also the dumb teams.

Easy now... I heard rumors that Fredi has been thinking about looking into a new concept of defensive shifting... and may implement a few by 2017

Gonna suck watching peraza at ss next season there with wood on the bump

Looks like the Dodgers are taking on Arroyo too. I bet we gave away Peraza to make that happen. We bought Toussaint for 14 million then sold Peraza for 14 million. This trade reminds me a lot of the Andy Marte trade. Hopefully it works out just as well.
