Around Baseball 2015 Edition

I'm just not sure how you can complain so far about the rebuild. It's not even a year in, and the farm went from bottom to top already. I'm not sure what you guys expect.

I'm just looking at the farm and don't see how we get to where we are to contender in 2 years.

Welp, the farm was totally barren beforehand. It takes time. The farm has made a quick turnaround.

I am aware. But if the goal is 2017... how do we get there? We just heard Hart say he's not gonna spend on the best bats this offseason. We can't keep trading our best pitchers for decent bats

The thing that has encouraged me most about Jace is watching him bat and seeing he's not an easy out. He works counts really well and pretty consistently. His 27 XBH aren't terrible. He strikes out a bit too much for his lack of power, but he is a rookie, and that could partially be a result of working counts deep.

He has a higher OBP than JUp at the moment.

Go through what? If we're not going to sign hitters, how do we get them?

I think Nick/Jace will be better next year. Then yiu have Olivera adding some punch and I think we will have a good enough offense to get into the playoffs with strong putching and defense

So you're suggestion is we already have enough offense to become a contender?

In many ways, Nick is having his best year since 2012. You can't expect more than that from him next year at 32.

First statement is wrong. 2nd one....Simmons, CJ, Peterson, LF? We pretty much had easy outs everywhere in the lineup but 1B, RF, and wherever KJ was playing.

How is the 1st statement wrong? Last yr had more stars but nothing else outside of those 4 players. No one else that played meaningful games had an OBP over .300 aside from Stella I believe. Our bench was horrendous as well. This year, nearly every one of our starters had an OBP over .300 on any given night up until we traded KJ and Uribe and Freeman went down. And our bench is certainly been better than last yrs overall.

Simmons is not as an easy of an out, at least compared to last year and other SS on general. CJ barely played after Uribe took over. Peterson is an easy out??? Lulz.

That statement is not to say that every day featured a lineup of solid hitters. That's why I qualified that statement with "when everyone was healthy."

I think we could be a playoff team...yes. I expect the pitching to be vastly improved next year.

What kind of pitching do you see us adding? Because our pitching would have to go from bad to phenomenal for the offense, without any significant additions, to give us enough to make a run at the playoffs.

That was the case for like a couple of months. This is why we wait until the end of the year. There were times last year when the entire offense didn't suck. Overall? It did. Will be the same case this year.

Well I guess we'll never be able to find out being that we traded two of our better hitters and our best hitter has been on the DL a good while. But considering posters such as yourself said that our offense would be even worse than last years, I don't see how you can say that those months were irrelevant. Team OBP was up substantially at one point in time, as were runs scored. I don't think the OBP was fluke either. I just feel we had more total quality hitters, even if those hitters weren't the stars like the ones we traded away.

On what basis? Unless we sign a very good FA pitcher this offseason our starting pitching is going to be much worse due to losing Wood alone. Our bullpen will most likely be a bit better just because it is so crappy this year, but we will still have to replace the very good production of Grilli (for most the season at least) and JJ. Without any major FA upgrades it's unlikely our pitching will be all that much better at all. We are currently 10 games below .500 and likely to be much worse by the end of the year, unless we are getting a major talent influx from FA we aren't even close to a playoff team next year, and would have to be very lucky to hit .500.

I think he is suggesting that good young pitchers get better with experience. History has proven that to be the case.
