Around Baseball Offseason Thread

I think you are in the same boat with Miller and Freeman. You have to keep both guys unless some team comes along willing to offer a TON of value. If not, not big deal. If so, and the package helps you in a near future, you pull the trigger.

Freeman can re-establish value if he goes out and has a healthy year back closer to his career numbers.

The pitching market next season is pretty light, so you make Teheran and Miller available in the right deal after the season.

I don't think we need a TON for Miller... We just need good value. We are wasting his cheap years on garbage seasons... so let's maximize his value

Olney: Since Shelby Miller's name first emerged in the trade market, the Giants and Dodgers have checked in on his availability.

Considering we asked for Pollack from the D-Backs, I doubt we see trade talks about Miller gaining any real traction. I'm actually not opposed to trading Miller. He had a great bounce back year and has a good bit of value. Still, he looks to have gotten a little lucky last year and is still a risky proposition. If we could get back some legitimate young offensive talent, I'd pull the trigger and deal Miller.

Giants dont have the pieces.

Dodgers do but dealing with Friedman again ugh

Jon Gant and Mallax Smith added to the 40 man roster

I think it's the right move to leave Camargo unprotected. Would be quite a reach for him to stick on someone's roster. Looking forward to seeing upcoming Rule 5 eligibility list, as we'll almost surely take someone.

Zimmerman to the Tigers for 5/110 it seems. 22 million a year for a ~3 WAR pitcher. The 7 million per WAR line still seems to be in place. Will be interesting to see if position players come in a little bit higher then that.

Thats about what i figured JZimm would get.

Be interesting if thats what Cueto wants/gets.

Was offered 5/105 and he declined, only signed for 5 more mil.

Maybe he wanted to be closer to home, he's from Wisconsin.

It may or may not be a sinking ship, but there is definitely a bad vibe in Washington. I wouldn't be surprised if that contributed to his decision.

I wouldnt use the term sinking ship, but there window for a ring is closed.

It depends. If Harper is healthy, he's one of the best five position players in the game. Scherzer is a great anchor in the starting rotation. Farm system still looks pretty solid. Curious to see how they fill in behind those two, but they will likely have money to spend. I think their biggest problem is that the Mets have improved so dramatically. I think the Mets are closing the window for them more than anything else.

Mets were a year ahead of where they should be.

Most of the Mets SP is under control for a good while.

Strasburg is a FA after this year and will be in heavy command next winter if he doesnt get a new deal.

Solid deal for Detroit. 22 million is a bit price but keeping it to only 5 years is a big win. And no I don't care how much his salary relates to WAR. It's a trash stat.

I really hope we can swing a deal for Baez. I feel like Shelby holds enough value we could get him and one of their prospects in the 6-10 range.
