Braves to sign Flowers

Damn, Bethancourt went from one of our top prospects and our catcher of the future, to being so little thought of, that we would rather have a 30 year old, career .223 hitter instead. Wow.

40 man roster now full. Need to make a move before rule 5 draft Friday morning.

DOB said expect him to be traded. I think Beth could be successful one day. Just not here

A CB trade should have been lined up before Flowers was signed. Now the Braves have exactly zero leverage in CB trade talks.

The Cubs did exactly that by trading Castro and signing Zobrist simultaneously. They have been putting on a clinic this offseason. I hope Coppy has been taking notes.

I would have liked to see Bethancourt given a full chance to sink or swim- a half of a season as the everyday starter, regardless of what happens on the field. But it's pretty clear the organization's disgust with Bethancourt has more to do with various character/personality issues than anything that happened on the field. You can be a light-hitting catcher, but you can't be a light-hitting catcher who skimps on pre-game preparation and doesn't give enough effort to block pitches in the dirt.

I don't think this is a tragedy or anything. I was always down on Bethancourt's prospects, and I called for him to be traded last year before we went on the re-build path. But I also don't think we handled this particularly well.

Really like bringing Flowers in on the deal we did. Will compliment AJ and this young pitching staff nicely.

Yeah, it's kind of corny, but when the Braves got Javier Vazquez from the White Sox, were they any headlines, "Braves send Flowers"?
