What a steal for the Royals. They essentially get a player similar in skillset to Heyward, but at a crazy good deal. Im not sure why everyone under values him so much. His total contract is essentially the level of production Gordon has put up the last 2 years.

Considering Gordon was initially expected to get $100M+, they signed him at about 75% of his expected price tag. If the price on Ces or JUp comes down to the same relative bargain level, I really hope the Braves jump in. Getting one of those RHed bats for LF right now at 75% of the initial price tag would be a huge boost going into 2017.

JUp was predicted to get 7/147 and Ces 6/140. If one of them can be signed for somewhere around $110M over 5-6 years then I think the Braves need to get involved. There won't be any other bats next offseason other than Gomez that are at the level of those two guys.

If this is an indication of the market on fringy DH types, we stand very little chance of getting a team to pay more than $1m for Nick Swisher.

We won't trade swisher or Bourn even if we eat their entire salary. Only hope is for one of them play well enough to get a deadline deal for a c prospect and we still eat their salary.

With the additions of Boni, KJ and Inciarte there is zero reason to keep Swisher or Bourn on the roster. Both are very unlikely to increase their value, and even if they do by the deadline it won't be enough to save any real money or acquire any type of real prospect, so just release them now.

Why release them? Do you have someone better ready to step in? Do you need the roster spots? If you release them you have to pay them anyway.

Swisher had an OBP over .340 and showed flashes of power.
Bourn is a different story but it wouldn't hurt to have him on hand as a mentor to Smith through at least ST.

correct.. they are sunk cost at this point. We are going to pay their entire salary in 2016.. might as well play them when you can and see if they can build any value what so ever. if not.. se la ve.. but it is not like they are blocking some superstar signing.

Nationals trade Storen to Toronto for Ben Revere.

Also hire Dan Jennings as a Special Assistant to Rizzo.

I think Rizzo is out in 2016 if the Nats don't perform.

Precisely. Anyways, if history is any lesson, recall Carlos Quentin. The Braves got him in the Kimbrel deal (as a salary dump for San Diego) and released him 9 days later. Lo and behold, he retires less than a month later -- after signing with Seattle, and realizing he wasn't healthy enough to play anymore. Braves paid him $8MM to do nothing in 2015.

Ew. The realization that Paps wasn't readable sink in? I don't like that deal much if you had bullpen issues in 15...

A little surprised to see WAS do this well in trading Storen, given they were backed into a corner. If they do end up trading Papelbon, that bullpen is looking a little dicey.

Good trade for them, for sure. But, the Nats window isn't that open for much longer. Bryce might be going bye-bye soon enough. He'll look good with Heyward in Chicago. lol

They can't win. Theyve violated one of the immutable laws of baseball team building. They've exceeded their prick quotient (PQ).

Might as well hang onto him. You're paying him. Just build him his own bullpen so he doesn't rub off on the others.

This HR call for Adonis last night was top notch! I remain skeptical of his defense, but I'm getting a bit more curious about his bat. He's absolutely tearing up the VWL.

I have been harping on Adonis all off season. I don't think he will be an all star. But I bet we will be happy with his production.
