Sunday 5/29 GDT: BROOM TIME vs Marlins (5:05 start!)

He better not be hurt.

Yea, they were implying that his knee was hurting him again. If it was then I'd be more apt to trade him simply because I remember JJ going from very solid to not even MLB quality over knee issues. But it might be the announcers making too much of something and more to due with Julio and AJP not being on the same page.

That said, I wonder if Freeman went for the DP instead of home because he knows AJP cannot catch his throws to home. :)

I kinda doubt Teheran was hurt. But he was laboring and had thrown a lot of pitches on a hot afternoon. Should have been lifted for a lefty after getting the first out. Or pinch hit for.

We have an 8 man pen at the moment. So conserving bullpen innings should not be an issue either.

He was right under 110 pitches as well going into the inning, pure idiocy.

Yep, crazy stuff with him possibly being hurt too. Also making him throw to AJP was bad enough. If we are planning to trade him all this can do is hurt his trade value. And if we're planning to keep him then why not be careful when he doesn't look right out there?

I haven't been able to watch, was there a play Julio seemed to hurt his knee on?

He looked uncomfortable before they came out to check him for injury and did seem to grab at his knee at one point. But hard to say it was certainly the knee, could be a number of things.

Nice try by Inciarte, EOF vs CJ who can still hit lefties was a predictable outcome. EOF should only be used as a lefty specialist, he has did well against lefties but righties not good. We have three lefties but all three have been bad vs righties and good to great vs lefties. Cervenka has a 0.00 ERA vs lefties I think but his numbers vs righties have been poor. However, I'd argue his case is more a combo of small sample and bad defense as in both of those games the defense didn't make plays behind him that should be made.

That said, it could be EOF was used this way to give reason to DFA him after today's game. Someone has to go from our bullpen soon so make sense as does the Braves probably seeing him, Krol, and Cervenka as all more lefty specialists at this point.

Krol and Cervenka look to be better then EOF at this point. Plus we have contractual control over those two after this year, which we don't with EOF. I think a decision on EOF will come to a head once Johnson or Simmons comes back.

Cervenka is certainly better than both IMO, his numbers are skewed by just two outings that a combination of him being not his best, defense not making plays, all came together for the perfect storm. IOW, that skewed his stats that makes him look like someone that you only use vs lefties when I'd argue SSS and keep an open mind there. Krol I've never liked, I don't even think he'll hold up as a good lefty specialist as his track record isn't anything to make me believe so. EOF it is harder to say given his injury history, but I think if you only use him vs lefties he should do as well as Krol does vs them. Both will likely stay bad vs righties.

That said, I do think EOF will go soon and maybe before JJ or Simmons come back. But honestly why bring terrible JJ back at all? He won't have any trade value and there's no room for him either.

PS: Cubs DFA'd a good reliever in Neil Ramirez who Braves would have first shot at claiming on waivers. Braves should get him, he's been very good outside of a small sample this year.

I was following along on my phone and saw how many pitches Teheran had thrown after 5. Was a bit surprised he was out there for the 6th, but with an overworked bullpen, sometimes someone has to lay on the grenade.

We have an eighth guy in the pen these days. What's the point of having that eighth guy if not for a day like today when your starter keeps you in the game but has run up a high pitch count.

That's true as well. I didn't agree with Snitker's decision to leave him in because it should be about protecting the commodity with Teheran. Wins and losses don't really matter.

This is why we should have kept Fredi.

He actually to his credit was learning to have a quick hook and when to let guys stay in. Snitker is managing to win since he's the new guy trying to turn the ship around. If they kept Fredi this wouldn't be happening.

Actually, Fredi was doing the same thing and neither have been consistent in doing so either. Which begs the question...
