Ah. I knew it had to be some stathead mumbo jumbo.

I'm going to side with Bill Wight and Paul Snyder on this. Give me the pitcher.

Quoting Scouts Honor will likely get you banned on this board. Or at the very least, some stern sneers.

What I quoted actually came out of a Baseball Prospectus article that quoted Bill's book, which is very good and much better than Moneyball.

LOL, Bill Shanks still thinks we haven't landed on the moon and that pockets and the internet are passing fads

Its a good book imo. Bill being a baby doesnt change that. 20/20 hindsight of most of those prospects busting might but its still a good read.

I want to guy who has some power potential and not too far away which means Lewis. If Lewis is gone OR the scouts think he's fools gold, then I hope they go with Groome or Pint. All the other hitting suspects such as Ray and Senzel appear to be more of the same of what they have already.

Pint scares me. Watching his mechanics does. The good thing about him tho is that he's not just a flamethrower. He has a solid feel for secondary pitches. but I'd much prefer Groome.

And I prob take Moniak over both. But Lewis is #1.

Such an interesting draft, nobody really knows what the hells going on out there.

No generational talents and about 10 guys who could be in play at the top.

Heard John Manuel from Baseball America talking up Nick Senzel a lot for us today. I don't want him to begin with, but I did see recently that he's represented by Boras. That scares me if we're trying to save money at 3 and use it later in the draft.

yeah.. I want no part of a BorAss client.

Our farm system is rated by pretty much everyone as a top 5 system, so it would stand to reason that we must have a lot of talent that should translate to a lot of minor league wins, yet for some strange reason all 4 of our teams are poor, all with losing records. Gwinnett is 25-32, Mississippi is 25-30, Carolina is 22-32, and Rome is 22-33. Together they are 94-127, a .425 winning percentage. How can we have such a highly rated farm system, yet all our teams be so bad? Poor coaching, or perhaps our farm system isn't really that good?

A lot of our prospects have been pushed aggressively.... Albies is a 19 year old in AAA; wouldn't Carolina's record be quite a bit better if we had Albies there? Sims/Ruiz are a couple more that were pushed aggressively.

Minor league W/L really isn't a stat to judge the system's quality on.

A couple notes that interested me;

"Crawford: If I'm the Phillies, I'm taking Jason Groome, a left-hander out of Barnegat High School in New Jersey. Despite some late season struggles and a controversial suspension, he's the best player on my board as a southpaw who has shown two plus-plus pitches in his fastball and curve, plus an above-average change."

I agree - Groome is my dude in this draft.

"Crawford: For me, there's a couple of big drops. The top three for me (Groome, Ray, and Delvin Perez) are so far and away better than everyone else that I think you have to call that a significant drop-off."

- Really interesting for me that he has Groome, Ray and Perez as a clear tier above everyone else. Maybe Ray wouldn't be such a bad pick?

"Crawford: 1. Jason Groome 2. Corey Ray 3. Delvin Perez (SS, International Baseball Academy, Puerto Rico) 4. Blake Rutherford (OF, Chaminade College Prep, California) 5. Kyle Lewis 6. Braxton Garrett (Florence HS, Alabama) 7. Mickey Moniak (La Costa Canyon HS, California) 8. Nick Senzel 9. A.J. Puk 10. Riley Pint (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Kansas)."
