6/16 GDT VS REDS: Nooner!

I really wanna get excited about mallex, but I keep thinking back to jace's strong first half last year essentially nothing since so I'm tempering expectations

this is Mallex's MO however... called up and struggle and then start to get hot... I don't expect a Jace fall off from him.

Hope that doesn't continue. Players get hated on for being streaky around here.

I was over Freddie last season after he pouted because players got traded away. Don't really care one way or the other for him anymore.

Mallex really needs to play every day. He's still k-ing a bit too much, but with his minor league numbers around 18%, I thought it was possible he'd be up around 28-30%. the fact he's at 22.5% is actually pretty encouraging to me, and his Ks have gone down each month. Plus, as noted, he's stealing bases with more ease now.

He's looked pretty bad against lefties... but we oughtta let him work through it this year

I don't care to look up his minor league or this seasons steal numbers. In the minors what was his steal percentage and how does it compare to what he is now?

That's true. But yeah, it's something he's gotta work on, so why not let him try and work it out? The sample is really small, and he's not gonna improve if he doesn't get the opportunities to.

231 out of 290 in the minors for 79.6%

So far in MLB he's 13 out of 20 for 65%. He has the ability. I'd say some of if may be nerves but he's also been called out a couple of times where he was actually safe too.

Yeah, I definitely think it's worth investing some time in Mallex and giving him the opportunity to hit LHP.

He was pretty much right around 80% his entire minor league career. He's at 65% this year.

What's the % you need to be a net positive... wanna say 78%?

When the Phillies were rolling, they were an incredibly successful team when stealing bases (among many other things). Jimmy Rollins was something else, you could not catch that guy. I forget who their base coaches were, but they were doing something right. I'm pretty sure Utley, Werth, and Victorino were all great base-stealers along with J-Roll. They were doing something very right.

edit: I think Davey Lopes got a lot of credit for their insanely high SB%. Seems he's coaching for Washington now.
