Reports: Two Dallas Police Officers Shot During Protests

If true, that is atrocious on the part of both the police and the media.

But what's new, they will pick and choose the incidents they want to publish of white cops shooting black victims, then will turn right around and be too quick to identify a black suspect.

The media is at the center of inflamed racial tension and needs to take a serious step back. That's never going to happen, but the divide will only get worse.

So you 'could tell' the cop expected you to be black? Perhaps you were the one making assumptions?

And I see that a cop questioned you unnecessarily after pulling you over...but it was also after he realized you were white. Perhaps cops are just power-drunk in general and not necessarily virulent racists?

Plot Twist: I'm not white.

And yes. I can tell by facial expressions the look of utter shock and surprise I'm not what they were expecting when the tinted windows rolled down and they pulled me over. You can tell by body language and speech patterns changing.

Again, my car make and model has been labeled in police briefings here as a "drug dealer car". Cops in my friend's precinct were specifically told to look out for silver grand ams with "rims" on them.

Ok, sorry, I'm the a-hole. But, 'after he realized you were not black' still makes the same point. We've been specifically discussing police targeting of blacks.

I'm not saying you're definitely wrong about cops being surprised you're not black. I'm just saying that perceptions are very strong, and it's absolutely possible your expectation that they will be surprised is causing you to read more into their reactions than is necessary.

And honestly, even if they're legitimately surprised...I'm not sure what that means. If they're surprised, then it's because most of the time when they see a similar car, it's driven by a black person. Otherwise their surprise would be entirely fabricated. We all profile in that way.

You have some valid points, but please refrain from a sense of satisfaction over the ambush killing of police officers. It's not helping you.

Yes, there has been a long history of racial animosity in this country that has negatively affected blacks. And there are still remnants of that today, and there are also just some aspects inherent of a minority (a la beauty standards). But perhaps as white people come to a better understanding of the experience of blacks and make a better effort to erase injustice, blacks could make an effort to remove the ingrained feeling of racial targeting of persecution? I'm not saying it doesn't ever happen, but I find it hard to believe that people honestly look at you like a criminal when entering an expensive store dressed nicely. I know a whole lot of black people a lot more wealthy than I am, and I imagine most people are in the same spot.

I think everyone would be much better off if everyone extended others the benefit of the doubt more often. Regardless of how we got here, we need to fix it. I didn't enslave anyone. But I understand the feelings that come with being a minority living among a people that at one point did enslave them. Rather than tossing blame around, let's all try to honestly fix the problems where they still appear.

There is no satisfaction or rejoicing over here. Because i am black its always assumed that im anti police. For God sakes im an officers daughter!!! What ive been saying is that enough is enough. White people must wake up to the injustice that plagues minority communitues. Stop ignoring generational wealth. No you did not slave me or my people but MANY whites have and still profit off of slavery. Many blacks were freed but then what? Blacks were given pennies while forced to work for their former slave masters who still came out wealthy? This wealth was passed down for generations. Blacks never got their money or land for all of their struggles. Hell blacks help build this country off of their hard work and free labor.

This is generational. Blacks are starting to become WOKE and finally putting their feet down. Ite time that whites wake up and do the same. It they dont I see blacks getting fed up just like the muslims...

An Atlanta black man was found hanging in a tree and the police are calling it suicide. Is this for real??? I fear an all out race war is coming.

After a spate of police killings of black men this week, a possible hate crime has surfaced in Atlanta.

Early Thursday morning, a black man was found hanging from a tree in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park. While police said the man’s death looked to be consistent with suicide, no official autopsy has been conducted. Social media is claiming that the young man’s death came on the heels of Ku Klux Klan members passing out recruitment flyers in the park just the day before, a claim that has not yet been verified, and expressed skepticism at the implication of a suicide without a full investigation.

This is a nice sentiment, but it would be nicer if you hadn't immediately preceded it with:

Telling a large mass of folks "I don't believe you, and the stuff you are complaining about is just made up inside you head".... that's the exact opposite of "the benefit of the doubt."

We didn't gain our independence without killing a few red coats. I am sure many of them were good people relative to their time. Who is a terrorist and who is the hero is a matter of who currently holds the power. This isn't going to end well. It's going to be used as an excuse to further the status quo policies that led to events like this.

Police started this war so I don't feel sorry for them when they suffer some casualties. It might make them mad to hear that but that's the pain they cause families when they shoot their murder their loved new and have to watch the police chief say the officer did nothing wrong. You reap what you sow. We are well past time for some vigilante justice.

You disgust me. You must be such a pathetic sack of ****.

What an asinine statement. You're a disgusting individual if you truly feel this way.

There is no justification for what happened tonight in Dallas. Absolutely none. Bad judgments by any police officers do not give any good reason for violence. Anyone who is justifying the acts in Dallas are a part of the problem. The four officers who lost their lives had nothing to do with the situations in Baton Rouge and Minnesota. I pray for this nation, because I feel like the country is spiraling out of control. People are acting on emotion and when you do that, bad situations happen. This is not a black problem. This is not a white problem. This is not a police problem. This is not a civilian problem. This is an EVERY PERSON problem. So long as people act on anger and emotion, it's not going to get any better.

This is obviously very sad but at some point should be expected. You can't keep having these stories come out and not expect some retaliation... if there's a legitimate war on minorities happening in the country - then you're going to get some blowback.

The system is ****ed up.

I posted here a few years ago about a time I was pulled over coming home from the gym after midnighy and had 2 officers point their guns at me because they tagged my plate wrong. I've been pulled over several times because I drive an early 2000s grand am which a lot of officers associate with hood thugs.

They called 8 cops in all handcuffed me put me in the back seat and found nothihg. When I complained to HQ they changed and edited their stories and the reports because someone majorly ****ed up.

I can't imagine what would've happened if I was a short tempered black person I may have died that night because both officers had guns pointed and spotlight on me.

All because the idiot tagged the wrong plate in another state. Just a horrible experience. They accused me of stealing the car from my dad, they said my dad reported the car stolen earlier etc. I live 2 minutes from the gym. My dad was home knows I go to gym late. Just utter bs. And one of their cops pulled me over a month later who was there when that f up happened and gave me a bs ticket after I had reported my story to HQ. Said I didn't come to a complete stop at a 4 way when I always always am analysis avout complete stops and turn signals. He drove a whole mile to catch up and pull me over 20 seconds from my house.

Yes, it happens, unfortunately. It happend to my wife as well. People need to stop judging the actions of a few.

I know it's the case. Ive lived and grown up in a black neighborhood where most of my friends and acquaintances are dead locked up or in bad environments. Had one white neighbor. She passed years ago. I went to school for years where I was the only non black kid in my class of 25-31 kids. I work with inner city black kids and much more. I see it happen.

I know I may have died if I were black that night because I got pulled over for driving a "black car" even though my car is silver. They had guns out ready to shoot. They were in attack position in between their door and car with spotlights in my face so I couldn't even see them. You don't think if I were a black person asking repeatively why yall pulled me over then might have looked like they were reaching that nobody would have been shot?

The chances of you getting shot while cooperating with the police are essentially nil. This is just crap. While, you can argue specific examples of police shooting to discuss if killing the suspect was justified, there are almost no incidents of suspects cooperating with police and getting killed.

This is just woah is me and only lights a torch to the issues at hand.

Wow my reply was removed i guess.

Hope you all have a chance to really sit down with black women and men and listen to them. Really listen!!!!

It will open your eyes.

I do all the time, but luckily they care about all people.

Can someone explain this to me? We know there were 2 police shootings shown through the media this week. One of them was a concealed carry holder that apparently was shot reaching for his wallet and a video showing a panicked officer that appears to be ill equiped for the situation. The other situation was a guy that had just threatened someone with a gun and resisted arrest and was wrestling with officers until taken down and officers recognizing he had a gun and telling him not to move or they would shoot. He then moved (possibly reaching for gun in right pocket; possibly not) and was shot.

I really dont see the outrage for the shooting in Louisiana, but it is all over my news feed. Last I checked, a gofund me page had 400k in the first few hours. Additional info comes out that the guy has a lengthy record. (meaningful or not) I don't see the outrage, the cops gave this guy several chances and even tried tasing; then restraining.

I've heard almost nothing about the shooting in Minnesota which appears (so far) to not have a shred of justification in it. Why aren't people expressing anger over this shooting? I'm very disheartened over this shooting...its a panicked officer shooting a guy doing what the cop asked him to do.

This is a truly bizarre synopsis of what I watched in that video.

Can you tell me what you saw in the video? You have seen both videos?

Not trying to be argumentative, but that is what I saw in the videos. The first video blocked his arm, in the second video, you could see him reaching for something. You can also hear the officers telling him to stop several times.

Also, if he was not reaching for the gun in his pocket, it's obviously a bad shooting by panicked officers. However, resisting arrest while being armed puts everyone's lives at risk.

The best reasoning I've read at this point is that there is no debate about the Minnesota shooting. It was clearly wrong and everyone agrees and thus it doesn't stir up **** and sell papers. I guess that makes logical sense, but it doesn't make sense to me that my friends are upset about the LA shooting, but not the MN shooting. I haven't received a good answer yet on that.
