GDT: 8/3 Whalen Debuts tonight

Why in the hell is beckham continuing to play with an actual prospect on the bench?

One of the dumber things that's going on right now. Who cares about platoons and trying max effort to win games? #finishstrong? Need to see Jace everyday.

Don't see anything wrong with Whalen unless you were expecting something unrealistic. Should probably settle in as a long man or spot starter and a decent one.

Gotta give Whalen credit for settling down, limiting the damage, and giving us a chance to get back into the game.

He was advertised as a pitcher, not a thrower. After the 1st inning, he settled down and became that. I don't see an Ace, but I do see a useful pitcher. Glad we all (haha) didn't give up on him after one inning!!! :cooter:

Past the first horrible inning , he went four more with 0 runs. He would make a good #5. Folty gave up more than that yesterday. They need to pitch all these guys. We DO have a bunch of #4 and #5's. Only way to find out the one or two that stick is to bring them up and let them pitch. Only way to find out and the perfect year.

He had an .832 OPS over almost 1600 PAs in AAA. Why wasn't he ever given more of a shot? Is he terrible defensively?

Most of that offensive output has been as a late 20's and early 30's guy in AAA. Call it the Mike Hessman syndrome.

Dude was sitting 88-90 with his fastball. That kind of stuff is not going to play for long at the MLB level. I'm glad we have a new guy "that just knows how to pitch" to cheer for though!
