Braves trade Francoeur in 3 team deal

I suspect we may not have seen the last of Frenchy in Atlanta, I can see him being re-signed in the off season
Let's start a tradition with every NL East team to trade them veterans signed to 1 year deals. It's not too late to trade Beckham to the Nats and De La Cruz to the Phillies, is it?

The market for international bonus slots is extremely lean this year. I was starting to think the Braves would not be able to trade any of their slots. I assume the $ sent by ATL was just to cover Francoeur's remaining contract. Minor deal, but the Braves did well to get even a long-shot prospect like Moore.

I suspect the Braves were intent to do right by Francoeur. Now that he's not playing, I think he likely made it known (in a professional manner) that he was open to being moved to a contender.

Odd move at a level. My guess is Moore is playing in the AA infield next year, but Foley doesn't appear to be much of a prospect. I've given up trying to discern the strengths/weakness of the financial machinations in these deals.

Really can't see what's odd about getting 2 prospects for a platoon outfielder who only has about a month left on the team...

Just saw that Moore has 40 SB this year between 2 levels. I wonder how much of that is an A ball mirage and how much is legitimate speed.

Hey you kids are probably saying to yourselves: I'm gonna go out there and grab the world by the tail! and wrap it around and pull it down and put it in my pocket. Well I'm here to tell you that this trade as you are going to find out, as you think about it, that it is not going to amount to jack squat!

I don't think this should be looked at through the lens of a financial decision. This looks more like a baseball move to get something of even a little value out of a player that does us no good for the remainder of our control over him and bonus pool slots that hold almost literally no value to the team. I applaud the FO for the move even if it's likely to mean next to nothing for us, because it's at least turning nothing into something.

Maybe he's a defensive whiz brought in to catch the young prospect pitching

At a level, not in general. Maybe I'm just not getting the pool for next year's international signings. I know we are limited to spending no more than $300 K per guy next year, so maybe it's just me not understanding how giving up this slot will affect the budget. I'm not going to rip on Foley, but I wouldn't call him a prospect.

They would be this year's international pool slots, which are nothing but miniscule penalty tax reducers for us. Ultimately we're going to pay ~$200,000 more in penalties when its assessed. It has no bearing on next year's signings.

Great trade. I like how we're looking for young RH hitters with pop. I hope that continues in the offseason. Play the numbers and one of them will pan out and go from a utility guy to starter one day.

We've been scouting the Northeast a lot the last two years. Hopefully someone saw something in this Foley guy. His stats are ugly

Moore may well end up being nothing more than organizational filler but I like the strategy. You're never going to get a blue chipper for a guy like Frenchy but I like the idea of targeting players with a tool or two to hang their hat on. Guys who are all around mediocre rarely develop into useful pieces but sometimes you have guys cobble together decent careers around one or two tools. Moore looks to have some power and some speed. Odds are he never turns out to be anything but those tools give him a chance.

The thing on Moore is that he's a man playing amongst boys in the lower minors. That doesn't mean he can't play or that he won't be productive, but I take his stat line with a shaker full of salt.

In more important matters, I found this as well:
