9/19 GDT: Braves vs last healthy Mets starter

As long as we can stay in a top 3 pick, I will take the progress we are seeing. I would love to see Blair make two more starts to show us some more.

We certainly need to see more to declare that Blair has turned a corner, but tonight, combined with his good outings when first called up provide hope that he can be a good bottom of the rotation guy while he is cheap.

Who knows what the future holds, but tonight says maybe!

Enscheff is not happy right now.

I'm mad because Kemp made 2 routine plays look hard? Plays like that are precisely why defensive metrics (as flawed as they are) are infinitely better than your "eye test".

Yet another straw man argument from a poster around here. Claiming Kemp is a bad defender, which he is, does not mean I am rooting for him to fail.

Remember, this is my favorite team too. Just because I don't have as rosy colored glasses as you doesn't change that.

Given the way Swanson has started and Inciarte has finished, seeing Blair get on track would make me (almost) feel sorry for the Dbacks.

It was a joke (not even a good one). Chill

The lowest batting avg we ran out there yesterday was Peterson at .259. He was the lowest by a good stretch too.

That's not bad. Not much pop, but not bad.

It's a far cry from earlier this year when some nights, if Freddy were in a funk, Beckham or d'Arnauld might be our best hitter.

Ops for our starting 8...

Inciarte -- .736

Garcia -- .717

FF -- .963

Kemp -- .799

Markakis -- .751

Flowers -- .784

Jace -- .741

Swanson -- .780

A lot of things have gone right with the starting lineup in the second half. But it wouldn't be surprising if a couple of them turned out to be small sample illusions. That includes Freddie Freeman's second half slash line of: .326/.432/.638. It has been fueled in part by a .388 BABIP. His career BABIP is .341, which is probably what we should expect going forward. I think some of the increase (but not all) in power seen this year gets sustained over the next few years.

So you think Kemp batting behind Freddie has helped?

I can guarantee you Kemp is going to be his best shape next and put up monster numbers. You can see he is happy now.

Oh I can deal with mediocre to bad defense in Left field if he mashes 40 homers, bat .280 and have around 100 rbi's.

Ask the Brewers about letting Khris Davis go and see what he has done in Oakland. I hear the announcers crying about it now and they dogged him mercilessly when he was there.

I mean, when players have hot streaks, sure their BABIP is usually going to be up. I'd think every player that has a great year has periods where their BABIP is high.

I like having Kemp in the lineup. But I don't think he has much to do with Freeman's second half surge.

The big plus from the Kemp trade imo is that we now are no longer in danger of giving someone like Cespedes a market-value 6 or 7 year deal. We have much much less risk and much more flexibility with the remaining three years of Kemp's deal than a deal that runs twice as long or longer.

Yeah. But not all hot streaks are equally fueled by BABIP.

watching Miller pitch makes me sad for the Dbacks
watching Inciarte play makes me feel bad for the Dbacks
watching Swanson come up makes me glad for the Dbacks
seeing Blair has 1 less win and almost the same ERA as Miller --- PRICELESS!!

Yeah but Freddie is one of the best line drive hitters in the game. He's at 43% hard hit balls on the year and 48% in the 2nd half. He's just been killing it. His BABIP the last 4 years. 371, 351, 321, and 369 this year. One could argue that the 321 is the outlier and he's really in the 350+ range right now. I would say the 2nd half tear he's been on is really just a hot streak and not luck induced.

Right. Three years for an additional commitment of $8.5m per. If he hits .850 (or even more), it's an incredible deal (even with defensive limitations).
