The Trump Presidency

Elections. Get the UN in the door.

Mode of government: TBD. Many have suggested the idea of something akin to a representative Tribal Council. I think you have to see how it all shakes out.

Worked great in Iraq. I'm sure Russia and Iran would be wildly enthusiastic!

This is why I have a problem with that bald certainty that, as you say, "Obama could have prevented this."

Your answer to "how?" is assasinate or depose Assad. Why on earth would you assume that the resulting circumstances would by any better than the status quo? That's just pure magical thinking.

Deposing Assad would have been exceedingly less messy four years ago than it would be today. At the time, prior to Russian involvement, it's plausible that Assad could have been coaxed out. His back was against the wall. Putin threw him a lifeline.

That's on Barry. Entirely. I don't see how you can sidestep that or throw another red flag at Bush.

Lost in the sarcasm is your alternative ... maybe the furtive hope that Shoko Asahara magically appears and shows Assad the most efficient route to finish off the rest of the rebels?

Less messy four years ago, sure.

Prior to Russian involvement? Please. And Iran?

Your certainty that we could zoot in there with the UN and stand up a viable government is ... touching. Again, that was the same story we heard--and you presumably echoed--about Iraq.

There's no way if we forced Assad out that Syria would have remained stable.

Theres too many factions in Syria right now vying for territory there were a decent number of factions doing the same 4 years ago. I also think a move on Syria decreases our chances of striking the Iran deal.

Blaming Obama for the Arab spring is crazy. If he had gotten his hands dirty in Egypt things would have gotten ugly. We tried in Libya and Syria I feel would have been much worse.

i just don't see how the neocons continue to think more and more ground troops is going to solve these problems. We may be in Iraq and Afghanistan forever at this point.

Well, no worries.

Donald Trump will sort it out.

I'm sure Jared can handle this. And I'll bet Steve Bannon has some pseudo-intellectual crackpot-ism that can be suitably employed here.

Has the report been refuted yet? If this person has said something so outlandish then I think it would be easy to come out and deny it.

I mean why would Susan Rice ever lie about something!!

So, where are we on this one?

Either this cat made it up and the Daily Caller published it uncritically (to say nothing of the other sites that have gravytrained on it; it's been around the world and back) or he has a top-secret source who was for some reason not mentioned anywhere in the story.

You linked this story. You tell me which one it is.

Either are possible. I'd like to wait and see before concluding either is the truth.

I'm fairly confident nobody will be able to sort this out. We are headed to a world War with the middle east.

What a joke california is. They basically have told their citizens they don't care about their safety.

Trump blames Obama/Assad
Putin blames Syrian rebels shielding Assad. (no mention of Obama - curious )

Seems the Trump apologists and the Putin apologists are at loggerheads
Quandary should one straddle both
huh Hawk ?

Prior to Russian involvement? Please. And Iran?

Hold up. Why do you think Russia got involved in Syria to begin with?

Your certainty that we could zoot in there with the UN and stand up a viable government is ... touching. Again, that was the same story we heard--and you presumably echoed--about Iraq.

You asked me what my solution would be. I replied. I'm curious as to how you derive certainty from that.

Again, I'm still waiting on an alternative from you that isn't entirely comprised of sitting on ones hands.

Speaking of straddling . . .
