MINORS THREAD 4/12: Wednesday's Schedule ... Rome improves to 6-1

It wasn't much of a game. Acuna was just missing pitches as he fouled several out of the stadium. Riley hit a mammoth shot to left center in the 9th with the game out of reach. Jackson caught and was pretty good. He made some good stops. He did let a pitch get by him. He's got a big arm though he didn't have a chance to use it.

Thanks. The games I have listened to. Jackson showed his arm. He allowed a stolen base but the throw sailed. He also threw behind runners a lot.

2 bad outings for Clouse. Did the pumpkin already show up.

Overall, not a bad couple starts for Newcomb. The Ks are nice, the BBs are about where you expect them. He's been hit more than I'd like, but as long as he's striking people out and not giving up too many walks, that is a good sign for him.

Was at Newcomb's start last night. Can't give a great scouting report, as I was often more focused on my 5.5 month old and left early (see 5.5 month old), but I thought he looked good although not super impressive. Nice easy delivery, amazing he gets such velocity out of it. Lived mostly on his fastball, frequently up in the zone with some movement. Lots of flyball outs but Norfolk made some good contact when guys got around on it. His curveball had great bite and seemed to fool folks, although he didn't throw that often and several were too far out of the zone to induce swings. Saw a couple ok changeups. He also had at least two 55 footers in warmups between innings. Overall reminded me some of watching Folty pitch (not in delivery or style, but because he was frequently deep in counts and stuff exceeded results).

I have watched Newk several times now. I was listening to the game last night and I could tell in the first inning he was not going to have a great game. When he is off, he misses up.. The 3 fly outs in the 1st inning told me he was missing up. Plus he was running deep counts and not throwing his curve much. I was actually impressed he hung in that long giving he didn't have his A game last night.
Watch out for this guy this year. I think he is putting some things together.

Yeah, I agree. If he can just get to where games like this are on the low end (some hits and walks, but still K'ing and figuring out how to minimize runs), then he'll be in phenomenal shape. He just needs to avoid the blow-up games and mix in enough beauties.

Allard pitching well again. Wisler is not. Don't know about that guy. I keep wanting to believe but I think it is homer hope at this point.

Too early in this one to say he's not pitching well. Give it another few innings.

But yeah, the early results from Allard and Soroka are incredibly exciting for 2 19-year-old pitchers in AA.

I'm done with Wisler - hope he reverses course but I don't think we have much there.

Makes the Kimbrel trade look like one of Coppy's worst.

Again, that was a premature verdict that he's not pitching well today. He got through the 3rd easily and is now sitting at: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.

I get that, but it was in response to someone saying he wasn't pitching well today.

He is now at 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Not a great start, but he's doing fine today.

He is recovering nicely.. but he has given up some hard hit balls to start.

Ozzie is starting to heat up in AAA..
