Braves sniffing around on Yelich, Realmuto

Came out pretty even. Fish got ~120 million in surplus value in prospects. They received a 60 FV, 55 FV, and 50 FV hitter with a 40 FV pitcher. That's a pretty big haul.

Some may want to criticize their deals but they have gotten fair value for Gordon, Yelich, and Ozuna.

And I get that, I just don't love the guys they got back for one of the most valuable players in baseball.

I would have wanted it more in one high end prospect as well but the teams just weren't offering that. And I think it's clear they were targeting position players so with Acuna off the table the Braves for example weren't a good matchup at all.

This is definitely what happened. I'm happy anyway because I think it's one year too early.

I don't think I follow.

I don't like the actual players they got back. Not their grade or "values".

Unfortunately for you, the rest of baseball cares about their "grades or values".

If you're one of those guys who thinks Brinson is the equivalent of Dustin Peterson...well...you're in the minority. I'll be keeping tabs on it.

i think they could very plausibly put up the same WAR as simba this year.

Not likely if Simba reproduces his 2017. He was a top 10 player in baseball by WAR figures. Newk and Swanson would need to have fantastic seasons to equal that. I certainly hope that happens though.

Brinson's stock benefited a lot from some gaudy numbers at AAA this year. However, the Brewer's AAA affiliate plays in Colorado Springs. IIRC, that's a notoriously hitter friendly park. His OPS at home in AAA was over .250 points higher than on the road.

I think Brinson can be a good player, but I'm not buying the hype. I think he can become something like the 2017 version of David Peralta.

yeah, well he'd have to continue with the bat. and i don't think he will. if he's around 3-4 again, it will be close.

Right but wouldn’t you rather that out of 1 player on your roster instead of having to combine two roster spots to get that?

depends on $ and age. and it's a pitcher and a position player, not two of the same. but regardless.
i didn't even say i'd rather have the two over the one. just that subtracting swanson and newcomb and adding simmons doesn't necessarily up the WAR.
swanson+newk will make about $10M less than simmons alone. IF they put up a combined 4.5 WAR and simmons puts up a 3.5, what's better?

He's done it before with the Braves though. Even if he comes back down a bit, you're still likely looking at a 4-5 win player. At worst a 3-4 win player. I'd easily trade Newk and Swanson for that with the hope that Simba continues to hit like he did last year and be one of the top 10 players in baseball.
