Since 2000 there have been 3 guys other than Newk who pitched 100+ innings in a season with a K/9 over 9 and a B.B./9 of 5:

Oliver Perez
Jonathan Sanchez
Daniel Cabrera

All 3 were guys folks kept saying “he has such great stuff, he just needs to figure out his control”, which is why they were allowed to pitch 100 innings.

Baseball has seen pitchers like Newk before. It’s highly probable he follows the same general career path as the ones before him.

Gio Gonzalez did basically that very same thing his 2nd season. A mere 1.1 innings away from qualifying for your abritrary threshold. I brought up several other examples the last time you brought this drivel up. Fact is, of the guys you listed, only Oliver Perez had even 1 season with a BB rate under 4. Newk is poised to do so in only his 2nd season. The improvements he has made over the last year have been tremendous. He may never be a legit ace, but I'd wager he'll be closer to a 2-3 rather than a 4-5, barring injury.
