Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

Outta my way, Gyorkass
12:51 Rumor has it the Orioles rejected a Machado trade offer centering around Alex Verdugo. That has got to be astronomically stupid of the BAL front office, right?
Kiley McDaniel
12:51 If that's there now, it'll be there in a few days

If this is true, the Os should be able to get a pretty substantial haul for Machado.

Seems to me there are multiple teams (notably the Dodgers and Brewers) with strong interest. Makes it likely that Machado will bring in at least one top 100 prospect.

Considering they already declined a Top 50 prospect, it's pretty much a given at this point.

Rumor is Clint Frazier, Chance Adams, and Erik Swanson for Machado and Britton.

Machado will be worth $35-40 million in surplus value.

Frazier and Adams will be worth about $51 million. Swanson is a throw-in.

Seems about right. Maybe a little light.

Oh my.

How do the Red Sox answer? deGrom?

would be an enormous win for the yankees

Question is...where is he playing? Third base or SS? How many of these teams want him to actually play SS?? I’m sorry but the more I think about him wanting to play SS even though he is not good there....I begin to think he is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Btw...have I mentioned today....I hate the Yankees....cause I do...with a passion....hate the friggin Yankees.

How bout SS, 3b, and 1b?

Britton is obviously being valued as a legit BP arm.

Seems like an almost perfectly even swap to me...another win for the surplus value model.

Unless the money is close, he’s going to the highest bidder. Period. And since the richest teams are now also the smartest teams, I don’t see any of them letting him play SS.

I agree. The only problem is what Machado has literally stated over and over. He can get what he wants, but it’s gonna cost him contract wise.

The Braves can use that to their advantage though. They could pitch “Sign with us and you can play SS”. That would end up having Dansby traded, but an infield of Freddie/Oz/Machado/Riley-Camargo would have some pop.

Pass, although Dansby is starting to look like maybe he's heading back to head case land.

I know we have complained about the strike zone for Braves hitters this season a lot, but we have two of the worst strike calls against us this season per Fangraphs. So, its not entirely unfounded fan speak. At least two of them we have complained about were legit...LOL
