Johnny Venters traded to Braves

It’s all good. A vet with good stuff on the cheap and oh yeah....it’s Venters.

This is a very good example of the type of moves to make. Clear out the Wisler and Sims of the world. Makes about three more trades like this one.

On Venters' ESPN log he wasn't pitching many if any full innings but most of the appearances on the ESPN Fantasy App were right before he was DL'd. Does anyone remember if he worked a full inning against us this year? I'm on my phone so it'd be a pain to look up.

He's pitched in 22 games. Of the 22, he went 1 ip or more 9 times

and So far in 2018, Venters has appeared in 22 games for Tampa Bay and been utilized as a left-handed specialist, as evidenced by the fact that he’s totaled just 14 innings. He’s posted a 3.86 ERA and an 11-to-6 K/BB ratio in that time, though one of those free passes was intentional. Venters’ 2011 season featured a 72.5 percent ground-ball rate — the eighth-highest mark in MLB history — and he’s been in vintage form so far this year, inducing grounders at a 70 percent clip. Venters has faced 26 lefties on the season and held them to an awful .167/.231/.292 slash, while the 32 righties he’s seen have hit him at a .250/.344/.357 pace.

No prospects given up for the bionic man. So that’s good.

Now let’s see if we can coax Terry Pendleton out of retirement.

Let's hope Venters can stay healthy til the end of the year and not get another TJ surgery with us.

Isn't he running out of ligaments by now in other parts of his body?

You want to get creeped out? Quite often these days the ligaments come from cadavers. Apparently the body doesn't reject them like it does organs when transplanted. Except, apparently, in Venters' case.

This deal makes sense became bringing back O'Flaherty was such a resounding success.

Ah. Didn't know that.

I just remember reading about how Mike Hampton was using the replacement ligaments in his elbow from other parts of his body. Always remember them saying when you get tommy john the first time they take the ligament from your other arm and put it in there.

Didnt Venters teach a pitch to Jurrjens one year when Jair had a ridiculously good first half of the season? Maybe Ventere could teach it to some of these prospects.
