If Donaldson generates 3 WAR this is a good deal. If 4 WAR or more, it is a great deal.

Given projections, I like it.

really, really excited about what donaldson potentially brings. he's probably the only true potentially elite bat that the braves had access to.

I like the move. 1 year deal keeps the team flexible going forward. Maybe we can even get a draft pick. I hope we still get a decent corner outfielder and closer to go with this.

...but we are probably going to use him to replace a 3.3 WAR player who is only 24 and costs virtually nothing. Why not use that cash on positions of need?

I'd wager that we see Teheran dealt in a virtual salary dump pretty soon. Either that or he'll be going in the other direction as salary relief as part of a larger deal. I don't believe they would've spent that much on Donaldson with LF still open unless they were planning to free up additional payroll.

I am sure they are thinking let's just sign the best bat. Donaldson is on the Machado/Harper level in terms of bat, without committing the years. If you can add an MVP bat then you just do it. Plus if Dansby sucks again Camargo is the SS. I am sure he can play OF if need be.

So Camargo to the OF or do we still sign an outfielder?

I think we still make a move for a starting cOFer. This signing can push Camargo to that super utility role that we've been clamoring for this offseason. I think having him on the bench benefits our team more than him in a cOF spot. So I think we'll trade for a cOF guy.
