And if Goldy is really available than the Braves made a huge mistake. They already have a fine in house third basemen replacement. The other half of the equation would have been filling the hole at first base that Freeman left.
What?

I'm thinking he wants Freeman at third.
Who doesn’t?

Our flexibility to fill the other holes with impact
Nice.
It floors me that some people cannot see the obvious enormous positives from these deals. Our flexibility to fill the other holes with impact talent and the flexibility to spend next year is pretty amazing
Cannot agree more. It is basically a reallocation of funds around the team....going into the offseason, Catcher and cOF were our two biggest positions of need. My guess is that AA evaluated what was available on the FA/Trade market and felt that signing Donaldson to play 3b could be a bigger upgrade than what was out there. By doing so, he signed BMac to a cheap deal, hoping that we can get something out of him and Flowers. Signs Donaldson, which improves us in 2 other spots...If Donaldson rakes, we have an MVP caliber hitter in our line up (not to mention the ability to attach the QO to him and get a prospect) and Camargo bolsters our bench, which was probably our third biggest weakness..
Now, we have not given up a single prospect, and still have some cash to spend. As I have mentioned in numerous other threads, I am 100% positive that Teheran and/or O'day are gone. That would allow us to go after several other additions
I dont think O'Day is gone, but Julio has to be as good as gone even if AA just dumps him to get his salary off the books.
Agreed...O'Day could be gone if we need the financial flexibility to make another bigger move. But Teheran is for sure gone
Kinda surprised Donaldson took a 1 yr deal, if the Braves were gonna get him, i'd want it to be for 1 year. But given all the money out there, i think he could have for sure got a multi year deal if he waited, but who knows?
This also strengthens the bench. Current bench: Flow/Mac, Culberson, Camargo, 4th OF'er.
23 mil is pretty pricy, i'd have to think AA looks to unload Julio for just about anything just to get his contract off the books. If you can unload him, you really only add 14 mil in payroll, Julio at 11 mil, Donaldson/Mac at 25 mil. Also we'll see who gets non-tendered and doesnt and what the payroll is after that.
