DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

Braves decline Reed Johnson's option, elect buyout.

Braves general manager Frank Wren said that declining Reed Johnson's contract option doesn't preclude the possibility of the veteran outfielder's return.

The Braves declined Johnson's $1.6 million option for the 2014 season on Monday, opting instead to pay him a $150,000 buyout. Johnson slashed a measly .244/.311/.341 in limited run with Atlanta this past season. Johnson, a career .311/.366/.456 hitter against lefties who can play all three outfield positions, should find a major league contract this winter.

Really pretty easy to see this one coming IMO. I also think there is a good chance Shafer is non tendered. Terdo I just dont see where he fits either. Building a bench will be a good exercise this winter.

Schafer will not be non tendered. He will be back.

You sure about this??? Not sure he brings much except speed with Heyward showing he can play CF and Gattis has not seen the last of LF IMO. Depends on who Wren can get for Uggla and how soon Pena is or is not deemed ready. E. Johnson can provide the speed Shafer brings Just a matter of making the pieces fit.

Whose the 4th OF'er then, if not JS?

With Reed gone, i'd say Pena, Laird, Schafer, Terdo, FA.

Gattis will probably be full-time C now with Mac all but gone, i doubt he sees much if anytime in the outfield barring a ridiculous amount of injuries, and with our luck, possible.

Sure seems to me that Tim Hudson will be wearing another uniform next season

I'm starting to wonder myself, apparently the Braves one year offer was "significantly lower than his $9 million in 2013." Huddy wants to stay but if they low-balled him I could see him leaving. The Braves claim of interest in re-signing him seems conditioned on him taking a one year deal "significantly lower" than years past. That doesn't sound like serious interest to me. It sounds like the situation with Ross last off-season. Time will tell.

Why would we offer JT for 2 years of Price, really guy? Lp

And Pederson, Seager, Lee, maybe Ryu whose on a cheapish contract, and some others.

LMAO!!

Pederson is not that great of a prospect. Certainly no more valuable than CB.

Seagar is low A. Hardly close to the majors. He has lots of value, but he isn't a centerpiece of a Price deal. Since they want ML ready talent.

Lee is hella lols. How is he much better if at all than litany of top pitching prospects we have?

And Ryu is semi expensive and his contract is garaunteed. What in the history of the Rays suggest that they would be willing to take on money?

I say again, what one player do the Rays have that would equal Wood or Teheran.

In what world is Joc Pederson not that great of a prospect. I love me some CB but Joc is way more valueable in terms of a prospect.

Seager is considered an absolute stud and due to the fact that pitching prospects flame out much more than hitters I would say Seager is more valueable than wood.

It doesn't even make sense to bring up Julios name. He isn't getting traded for anyone aside from Trout.

Pedr

Putting Teheran and Minor in trade proposals make no sense whatsoever. Those guys are going nowhere. Since it's looking more and more (at least to me) that Hudson isn't going to be back, Medlen is in that same category.

To the bottom, why in the world would we trade Julio unless we're getting Harper or Trout which isnt happening.

Julio is pretty much close to untouchable.

And again, with Mac gone, i dont see the need to trade CB.

A Gattis/CB duo at C is fine, especially since Laird will be gone after next year.

Wood, while good isnt that much better than Pederson or Seager.

While Ryu has a big contract, its not insane like some contracts out there.

Dont doubt that Gattis will be the primary catcher but would bet that Wren signs a LH hitting catcher for bench/backup to Gattis and laird. If that happens then the bench becomes Laird and new catcher plus an middle IF who can play SS (who knows Pena's status) possibly someone who comes in for Uggla (unless is a starting 2nd baseman), LH hitting power OFer. Im getting intrigued by Markakis reading the Orioles news.

J/K with you but wouldnt you rather have Jimenez or Santana for next 4 years than worry about Hudson going AWOL in 2014? Garza is available too but IMO he may be too spacey for Braves clubhouse.

The Braves are going to have to go more than one year to get Hudson to come back, and I don't see that happening. They already have a full five man rotation returning, allowing Wood to stay in the rotation. You will have Medlen, Teheran, Minor, Wood and Beachy. And I think you might see them take a flyer on either a Roy Halladay, Josh Johnson or Johan Santana, if they don't trade for a number one. I would still watch out for Kyle Lohse, who knows, they may make a play for him.
