Around The Majors 2019

And gut... gotta have gut feeling in there haha

I don't doubt xwoba is a good metric. I just don't think it's the be all, end all. If you look at that metric and nothing else...

There are 50 pitchers in mlb better than degrom

Greinke is the 75th best pitcher in mlb... Sergio romo is better than him

There are 90 pitchers better than Chris sale

There's 309 pitchers better than Dallas

Fried is basically the equal of wheeler and Nola... .304 - .306

Is that based on xwOBA or veteran clutchness

Rosenthal says Houston, Atlanta, Minnesota, and Milwaukee are all interested in him. Those teams don't strike me as dumb. Do you think they look at more than xwoba?

In the Braves case I'm sure AA has questions to whether Folty/Gausman will get back to where we need them and that Fried can keep it up. Those are valid concerns and it's good to look at all options on the SP market. Julio btw has the same xWOBA as MadBum and a much higher bWAR. Both have been lucky this year.

You do know how to differentiate between starters and relievers right and why that's important?

Fine.

Last year, Oliver Perez was better than hader.

Oliver Perez has been really good the last two years. But he is used very sparingly in a specialized role. Anyhow I'm sure you know that any statistic can be misused or applied in a misleading way. And of course xwOBA becomes more reliable as the sample size grows.

Again, I think it's very useful. I don't think you can look at JUST it though. I think it nails scherzer as the best starter in baseball. Do I think Luis Castillo is better than degrom and greinke? Hell no. Having Sergio romo in the top 75 pitchers in mlb is laughable. In what world besides xwoba is Luke jackson better than A. Chapman? And it isn't even close... hell John gant is better than Chapman in this metric

Looking over xwoba, I noticed Kyle Freeland among the worst. And he is according to fangraphs too. What the heck happened to him?

I think I had a bet with someone on gant total war his first three big league seasons. I took the over but don’t remember the total. I wanna say three. I need to see if he made it.

You do realize there is no real difference between a 270 and 271 xWOBA, right?

Here’s a rule if thumb...

If you don’t understand why a .300 xwOBA from a BP arm isn’t the equivalent of a .300 xwOBA from a SP, don’t bother looking at the stat.

Stick with wins and ERA and the kiddie boards.

Is Sergio romo among the 75 best pitchers in mlb? Do you think wade Miley is better than Chris sale?

Do you remember how badly Sale was struggling with a FA in the 80s early this season?

Do you realize the leaders in xwOBA is full of BP arms, and why?

Again, if you can’t understand the stat, don’t use it.

If Shane Greene is one of our targets, romo should be a better option. He's better in xwoba this year

Romo has only pitched 32 innings? No I don't think he's one of the top 75 pitchers in baseball. That said his ERA is bad mainly due to bad luck with a ****ty 65% LOB rate. He is someone I'd look to help the pen.

Is Wade Miley better than Chris Sale? No because one has a history of being elite and the other is Wade Miley. Wade has pitched better than Sale this year though. Also I'm not sure if you forgot or not but Sale was sucking ass the first month of the season. He has clearly turned that around. And a 276 vs 287 xWOBA is something that can be swapped in one start.

I don’t think either guys are particularly great options, but both would be fine value additions.

You are just randomly throwing names out there in some silly attempt to prove something you think you understand.
