GDT 7/21/19: Secure the split

Welp, Gausman has had about as good a game as we could have hoped for. If we think his turnaround is real, then there is a good chance we won't have to trade for a SP this week.

Deadline isnt until the next week, so we dont know that yet.

Disagree. If we’re taking the postseason seriously we still need another starter.

We should wait and see what he does in his next start, but if we're more confident in Kevin then I wouldn't make a move for a starter. I'm fine rolling with him, Soroka, Fried, Keuchel, and Julio.

I'm not confident in that rotation against the NL playoff teams. We need another SP imo.

I agree. If Gausman keeps pitching like this then he can be a big piece in the bullpen for a 5 game series and be a 4th starter in a 7 game series. Good problem to have but I agree that we need another good starter.

If we get a substantial upgrade then sure. But I don't really see many starters on the trade market that represent a big enough upgrade to justify the cost in a buyer's market, provided we're confident in Gausman, once again. Bumgarner definitely isn't it. Wheeler probably isn't it. Stroman would be an upgrade, but not a big enough upgrade to justify an "Archer-level" package. Same sort of goes for Boyd, but mostly because I don't want to pay the premium for the extra years of control.

The one guy that I'd be 100% okay trading for would be Syndergaard, but I doubt he's gonna be available.

I'm not sure I'd be any more confident if you took out Fried or Gausman and inserted Bumgarner or Wheeler.

I would be more confident in Stroman or Boyd, but not for the reported packages being asked for.

The Jays can ask for a Archer like package, doesnt mean they get it. But i do agree none of the reported starters available exactly move the needle. Minor, Wheeler, Stroman, Boyd, Bumgarner, etc.

Bauer would really intrigue me, but the Indians are scorching hot right now. They'd have to be really blown away to move him.

That, obviously, is always the $64K question. Is what you're being asked to give up in the long term worth what you're going to get, worst case, for a couple of months? I've not seen anything so far that screams at me, "yeah, it's worth it."

I think for the cost, Wheeler would be the best get, but not sure how much better he'd be than what we have.

Not necessarily. The Indians are an interesting team. They need to cut payroll but don’t really want to throw in the towel. They are open to creative deals to stay competitive while cutting cost

Ender would actually help them alot.

Would Ender, TD, Wentz/Allard, Wright come close for Bauer?

But yeah Bauer will be moved this winter if not at the deadline.

As a compete "layman," he and Stroman are the most intriguing candidates. Just don't know if the probable pain is worth the gain,
