gdt 10.9.19: today the house of cards comes tumbling down

It’s comical listening to folks plan for this game as if anything can be done to control what happens in a single baseball game.

The correct lineup has been the correct lineup from day 1, and there’s no magic button to press to make a guy have a good game.

Our mood would be the same if we had their same recent history in playoffs.

Yep. As I've said elsewhere, the last time we won a playoff series the iPod and Windows XP hadn't yet been released. We haven't gotten the benefit of things like a ridiculous infield fly rule call or a series saving run on the back of a 69 MPH double. They have.

So yeah, their mood is justified, as is ours. If there's such a thing as battered fan syndrome, Braves fans have it.

Braves are the new Cubs. We need Heyward back.

Reality check: folks are referring to Duvall as the “hot hand” based on 8 PAs, the last 3 of which were 0-3 with 2 Ks. So they are basing their decision on PAs 1-5, and ignoring PAs 6-8 and the entirety of Duvall’s career.

It is literally impossible to be any dumber than folks spouting that narrative.

Victim mentality is weak. Testosterone? Have any?

since we are going all in on teeny weeny samples 3 HRs in 7 PAs against Flaherty

Just don't see any way we beat Flaherty twice. Cards are gonna put more pressure on Folty, feels like he has to have some sort of mini blow up at the least. Game 4 was the game and we blew it.

I don't think "hot hand" is motivating Snitker. Duvall is 2-5 with 2 HR and a BB against Flaherty in his career (including the post season). Still not smart due to super small sample size but considering how bad Joyce has looked this series, I can't say I think there's a massive drop off.

For most of his career Duvall has played full-time and has fairly moderate splits. He can hit righties. This season he's been crazy good against lefties. But THAT is a small sample thing. Usually he is only slightly better against lefties.

He's had 3 impressive ABs against righties this series. He squared up a 98 MPH fastball for a single to left in game 1. Then the HR against Flaherty in game 2. And against Martinez in game 3 he hit a slider that was well located just off the plate. I think the combination of considerations (including the better OF defense and breaking up the 3 LHH in a row setup) justifies having him in the lineup. Joyce will likely have a high leverage AB late in the game.

Agreed.

An important note is that as much as we bitch about Snit, decisions like Duvall vs Joyce have little impact compared to things out of his control like JD and Freeman not bothering to show up.

Seriously. Look at the impact Goldschmidt and Ozuna have had on the series. If Freeman and JD had shown up at all, the Braves probably sweep. Atlanta is easily the better team, we just went cold at the wrong time.
