That's not how I read the quote...

"The investors were told the Braves have averaged annual increases of 21% in total revenue, 9% in paid attendance, 22% in gate receipts, 25% in sponsorship revenue and 44% in TV ratings since the move."

I take that as a 21% increase in revenue since over 2016 revenues, when the payroll was well under $100M.

I'm going to guess this statement doesn't reveal anything we don't already know: payroll has been going up slowly the last few years.

Also "revenue" doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot.

Including Fried would be dumb but AA knows that. Waters and Wilson would be fair. Yes Bryant is expensive but at his production, ~$20 million a year is a pretty good deal. Dude is an MVP candidate when he's healthy. I don't see how trading for that would be an odd decision if the deal is fair.

In my view the Braves need at the very least a #4 and #5 hitter and a #4 starting pitcher.

I don't have a problem with the idea of trading for Bryant if these issues are met, though I am skeptical that any big budget team that is still playoff caliber is going to start shedding stars.

My concern is a matter of resources. We think we know the Braves have limited payroll. We think we know that the Braves would not want to hugely delete the farm.

Using limited prospect capital in a trade that also depletes a significant amount of payroll room seems like something that might restrict the Braves ability to field a favorite to contend.

But if they are willing to deplete the farm or are willing to have a significantly higher budget, then those aren't as big concerns. 20m for Bryant to hit clean-up and play 3B is an excellent fit for need. But again, my only issue is whether the other things that need to get done, get done. Half a lineup or half a rotation may make it difficult to even make the playoffs.

Yeah you are right. The best catcher on the market versus the 3rd best 3d baseman on the market (maybe 2nd if Bryant stays home), tbh.

I don’t see anybody giving JD 4-100. If they do they’ll regret it. But if JD was the same age as Grandal that’d be another story.

A cheap option that might actually work for 3B would be to pick up Stella! and platoon him with Riley. If we spend all our money elsewhere.

.306 .358 .522 .880 (Stella! vs RHP)

.262 .338 .646 .984 (Riley vs LHP)

It's a really good cheap option. Having Stella! also gives us another option to give Albies a rest from time to time (on his weak side no less).
