Official Offseason Thread

We spent 2 years learning how teams would spend carefully, and then they completely reverted back to being morons this year.

....and of course this happens the only year when we actually need to sign a high profile player back. Donaldson probably signs a two year deal with a option the last few years for not crazy money.

Ryu getting a four year deal at 33....sound familiar ?

More i think about it, 4 years for JD doesnt seem crazy. DK got 3 years with an option, Bumgarner got 5 years, Ryu just got 4.

Do hope we know something soon with JD though one way or the other.

I think we should sign him and keep Austin Riley too just in case.

The brain trust over at TC thinks the Braves should offer up to 4/120, with most suggesting 4/100+.

I bet they are all lifetime members of the IBWAA.

I hope something happens soon. This thread is getting boring.

I guess they are entitled to their opinion even if we disagree. No point in attacking them for expressing their opinion.

na if your opinion is way off base it deserves to be mocked.

Are there gonna be any 3rd base options in 20-21 offseason we can look at?

4/120 is just ridiculous. Sorry JD.

Turner is FA, though if he has his typical year, it maybe a similar situation where you're committing 2-3 years at 20 million per for a mid 30's 3b. For trade, Chapman maybe available since he'll be arb eligible for the 1st time and the A's maybe fading with the Angels on the way up and them losing Siemien. Brian Anderson, Jose Ramirez, and a Yankee 3b could also be available via trade.

He will also be 36 by then. I really like him though...but that’s getting up there.

Marcus Semien, George Springer, DJ Lemathieu, Mookie, Turner, David Peralta, and JT Realmuto are the best position player free agents as of now before anyone agrees to an extension. Pretty intriguing group depending who hits the market.

SP wise, Hamels/Odorizzi/Tanaka/Paxton/Bauer/Robbie Ray.

We should have some money to play with, since MM/Greene/Hamels, and Folty is a possibly non-tender or trade candidate. Dont see JD getting 4/120, if he did, he'd have signed already, i think on a 4 year deal, he gets around 105 mil or so.

2021 free agents are pretty lacking except at the top. And the biggest money teams will want Springer, Betts, and Realmuto. In fact I"d be shocked if any of those guys leave their current teams.

Braves options are basically sign DOnaldson or hope that Riley can be a productive MLB 3B or go with Camargo who'll be a Martin Prado/Omar Infante type a good utility player who's not a great starter and you're probably wasting his value as a starter.

I don’t know how much we have to spend.

To me it makes sense to front load the deal.

30/30/20 with a team option for 20 in year 4 with a 5 to ten million buy out.

Doesn’t that work for everyone if we can afford 30 million this year? I know it’s a lot and there is risk. I’d rather have given 35 to rendon. Pray for dh.

I think Philly pays JTR, and Hou pays Springer but it doesnt like Boston will pay Betts or he will sign before FA. There's still good FA's to be had outside of them though, and we should have some money to spend depending on the rest of this offseason.

Regarding 3B, it's probably Bryant or JD if you want anyone impactful.

I think the Braves end up signing Todd Frazier, supplementing him with Culberson and/or Camargo, playing Riley in AAA every day and hoping he works through his growing pains at the plate.

To me, on Donaldson, I think I would go as high as 3 years $75M with a 4th year option (player at $15M, club at $25M) and even that seems steep to me.

If the Rocks want to move Arenado because of payroll, I would consider it but wouldn't pay real talent unless big dollars returned.

I don't really want to go the Bryant route because the situation is much different due to the short length of his current control (with or without the grievance) and his current salary. He should cost much, much more than Arenado would.

If the Braves go with Frazier, then they need Ozuna which comes with a lost pick and likely a stiff contract.
